Shocking News: The YOUnity Reviewers Guild Votes for Keith Olbermann and Best Media

DisilgoldSOUL, USA- (August 25th) Keith Olbermann is voted as best media by the YOUnity Reviewers Guild of America. He’s not Black or Hispanic, but it seems like more YGA members tune in to the slapstick style entertainment and news show with guest journalists and television personalities as Bob Costas, a respected tv personality and at extreme ends, Mo Rocca, the guy with the larger than life myoptic frames who appears to be serious reporting on issues, but if you listen, he’s as hilarious as hell. There are more guests from shows like on Soup tv. I think it’s a clever show. Why not invite other tv personalities to speak on issues?

Well, I decided to tune in and develop a little journalistic skit of my own as if I was interviewed by Keith Olbermann, who is definitely a side-splitting liberal whose issues are as nilly willy as a Groundhog peeping out on Groundhog’s Day. It’s celebrity-filled jargon so brace yourself. These issues once witnesed by media are going to create a sound-off, but noone can find me. All of my sites are unlisted so just grin and bear. This is as honest as it gets.

Olbermann: How do you feel about Lindsey Lohan getting out of jail in 82 minutes?

Heather: Well, reports say she got a minute for every pound. She’s way too fragile to go to jail and not a threat to anyone, but herself. These stars need mandatory counseling sentences, not jail time and unless they are driving. Brittney Spears should not have been released for speeding with her dancers. That is an insult for the number of shrines I see on the streets of the Grand Concourse her in Bronx when driving for dead pedestrians hit at night due to speeding vehicles. There is no could have, would have should of. Brittney deserves time in jail. And as far as her dog being found with a cast. That is one irresponsible child whose stardom has gone to her head. First, she almost snapped her baby’s head back trying to dodge paparazzi. Brittney is a violation of celebrity protocol and if MTV lets her host the show instead of Ryan Seacrest, I am not tuning in. Don’t insult me with a media guru who is loving every moment of her fame and shenanigans. I bet she’s paying media and the courts to build her career because simply, she can afford it. I bet they all sat at a round table and said, now here is how we are going to do this with a publicity stunt specialist who recruits real live folks from all walks of life to participate. They all get fame and fortune when all is done. Look how everyone associated with Brittney have become famous overnight. It’s a media conspiracy. You see Brittney really could never sing. This has been a whole plot all along. There are people who get paid big bucks to create paparazzi stars. Years from now we will realize that Brittney never had any talent.

Olbermann: What do you feel about celebrities pleading guilty for lesser sentences?

Heather: They are fools. You never plead guilty to something you did not do. You accept the sentence and be a man or woman. God will get you out of there if you are innocent. You have to have faith. Even if you accept a plea bargain, this opens up the door for everyone to sue you like in the case of O.J. because if you did do what you did, you need to compensate folks. Hollywood ain’t for everyone baby. (Jay-Z homage in song with Beyonce, “Hollywood.”)

Olbermann: What about Mike Vick?

Heather: What about him? I respect the man. He told the truth. Dog fighting is a culturally accepted ritual among gangsters and even  hunters all around the country. It’s nothing new, and not nearly half as cruel as how white slave owners beat the shit out of enslaved blackmen against their will. For the black men who do it, they equate these dogs to vicious slavemasters internally. They are afraid of their success, so dog fighting is the only way for they to see and tackle their fears. It’s a mental thing. Trust, noone would want a vicious Pit Bull or any dog born to kill. Many are euthenized when their masters have no use for them or they attack their owners. It’s either that or a dog fighting ring kennel. There are millions of dogs. Even if you got one as a pet, it would eventually give you a piece of its mind and attack you. I know this as a fact. And- they have lock jaw. That means when they crunch they have got to bite down threw the bone or they can’t open up their mouths.  It starts off with 1-3 dogs. Your friends feed the animal in you. You feel like somebody even if you feel like you’re nobody. You got friends around who are betting on making money off of animals fighting instead of begging you for your money. Sheez, what a way to keep friends around. Folks make their money, comraderrie, the parties, the women and fast life ensue. It becomes a dark and sacred world of immortal soldiers who find comfort away from their rigurous lives to be in such sport of something they are not really in control. However, the dogs give them that vicarious control. Folks in the country use to have cock fights and like noone says anything when precious rabbits and cute furry mice are thrown into snake cages at the zoo. I mean let’s not all beat up of the darkest and ugliest black man on the planet. Now you know I don’t mean that, but this is how I am internalizing the treatment of Michael Vick. He is a star football player. Those same people booing him would have a vicious dog slaughtered if it killed one of their family members, God forbid. I just feel that there is too much hate against Michael. Okay, he led dog fights. He walks real cocky. However, you can’t take away that he is the baddest ass dresser to walk into courts, has smooth flawless skin, holds his head up high and unlike these spoiled little brat divas in Hollywood crying for less than 30 days in jail, he accepted his punishment as a criminal. His crime was letting his friends feed the monster in him.  I think he would be far better off doing community service and funding a dog kennel for abused animals. If anything, he exposed a crime that many kids in the Bronx who have their animals fight all of the time, don’t even know it’s a crime. And- I am going to catch that man on his bike I see everyday who rides around with his pit bull chained to his bike and a weight around his neck for miles. That ain’t right.

The dogs that fight in the ring are born to kill. They are not your cute little pets. Folks, when a man in Harlem had one of those dogs that snapped its leash and started playfully darting toward me, I knew to jump on top of a car. Forget the skirt or heels. When the man noticed this from the bodega he was in, he ran out and thanked me whole heartedly because the dog will attack people. I said thank you too, and now get your dog out of here please, because I had for surely called the police while waiting comfortably on top of someone ride.

Now what I don’t condone are other animals being tossed in these rings for prize meat.  So to add to injury, I think his team mates should give him a good ass kicking when he returns to the NFL. The NFL president did the right thing for suspending him because he will be in jail for a year or two anyway. This is responsible, and by then, he’ll be back as a changed man filled with humility and humbleness. He’ll also, be one of the greatest quarterbacks off all time. If you watch dogs fight, you keep that menatility of a warrior. That’s why men in sports like dog fighting. One mistake and your neck could be snapped or broken. It is , I REPEAT… FOOTBALL is the most dangerous sport on the planet because it involves unpredictable collision. There is a scene in my book entitled Tekila Nika that expresses a scene of a fatal incident. All that I know is that these men have nightmares at times. They also, have somuch money that they keep these dogs around, and nothing is better to them than having their friends see for themselves what kind of dogs they have so the word will get around for folks to stay off your property if uninvited. A lot of these sportsplayers have been attacked, and it is a constant struggle for them because they are loaded and don’t know who to trust. By no means did Michael Vick need the money or have to partake in any gambling. I think the world should forgive his sins as much as they should be able to equate the cruelty bestowed upon slaves. Now don’t tell me the world has more passion for vicious dogs than human life.

Olbermann: What do you think about ….

Heather: Think? Don’t ask me what I think. Ask me what I know. Don’t insult me like that. (Walking off the set) :-)

OFFICIAL:Lissa Woodson aka Naleighna Kai & Son J. L. Woodson are 2 Stars from One Family Who Shine! Read about this Amazing Success Story!

Naleighna Kai is a fresh, vivacious, upbeat, very personable and gifted writer who gracefully appeared on the literary scene as the mysterious lady behind Macro Publishing. www.Macropublishing.com. Take a look for yourself  on how far this company has grown. If the unique design of the Macro Publishing site doesn’t lure you, the authors and content of books published by Macro Publishing will.

The company published a variety of titles and genres synonymous with classy and appealing cutting edge covers that not only drew readers attention, but finely well read stories and plots that leave you fulfilled with breathless content you’ll always remember.

Once we matched the beautiful and hard working mom’s face with this elite publishing house, and as the proud parent of J.L. Woodson, who was only 18 back then, but is now a grown man off on his own and a dashingly handsome Prince of  Literature, we couldn’t help but take note of a publisher destined to succeed as part of our Disilgold history maker series. (Please note, Macro Publishing no longer publishes authors, but is a thriving and full literary agency focused on promotion and marketing).

Our history with Naleighna Kai, who happens to be the Essence bestselling author  of “Every Woman Needs a Wife”is a phenomenal woman. We met the authoress whose real life name is “Lissa Woodson,” at the Book Expo’s America African-American Pavilion. My team showed up with very large cameras which caught the attention of everyone present who may have been surprised and so camera shy, many of the authors who have not been exposed to the paparazzi were simply not prepared to be interviewed. I saw ladies taking out their lipstick cases, powder cases and fixing their hair instead of coming over and saying, “Hello!” It is so difficult as it is to lug expensive camera equipment around and then have to decide who will we interview, but one lady made our job very easy.

I have this habit of abruptly turning around to see who is standing around, and low and behold there was the Macro Publishing family and Naleighna Kai.

I knew immediately that I would be interviewing this entire family poised and ready for success. Naleighna Kai never told me she was an author. She continued to talk about her authors and mentioned all of their titles and what their books were about. She had no idea I was calculating an overall picture of her professionalism. There was no doubt in my mind, that this lady would become more than a great woman someday, but a promoter or manager. I know a good promoter when I am facing one face-to-face. It’s sort of like a stand-off. It’s a little worse than two greeks from different sororities meeting one another at an event. However, I am one of those people who can release her powers to let other folks shine, and do I let Naleighna Kai work the entire Macro Publishing family  right in front of our cameras. She was bold and unstoppable. There wasn’t a sign of sweat on her brow. Such a confident lady I thought, but I saw through all of the glamour, impeccably designed hairdo of curls, already well prepared touch of make-up and outfit that spelled fashinista with a purpose. This Nalieghna Kai was ready to take on the world.

Naleighna intently pulled  over her Macro Publishing family one by one. One gave me a sensuous hug and kiss and wouldn’t let me go. That was J.L. Woodson back then, a charming man.

I remembered him when he was just 17 speaking at a Men Who Cook & Write Luncheon hosted by QBR with the big boys like Colin Channer, Toure, George Nelson and Obery Hendricks.

  J. L. Woodson got up there to the podium like a shy kid and froze when he spoke. His lips trembled . He was nervous and  seemed real shy, but it was fun listening to him because everyone in the audience sort of knew he was just being humble and by no means trying to over step the big boys. I said, “Aw, how adorable, but I am going to school him on the ropes of speaking when the event is done.” I figured he was just being mama’s boy since Naleighna Kai was in the room, but she doesn’t follow him around. You wouldn’t even know she’s his mom. She’s really his publicist. J.L. gets a lot of speaking gigs and is a bonafide literary celebrity. I have word on him playing golf with celebs and even dancing at celeb events. That J.L. is a superstar every bit that he looks, and you’ve heard.

I think Robert Fleming signed an autographed book for both of us at the Men Who Cook & Write event because J.L. was just as in awe speaking at an event with so many accomplished authors. He respects mentors and authors.

Toure’ had a book out called Soul City, and wrote for Rolling Stone Magazine. I think I interviewed him before he got that gig as a host of The Black Carpet on BET so the history of the people at this event is historical.

Colin Channer has gone on to major success and the list goes on. J.L. will go down in history as a guest speaker at this event.

After the event, I privately spoke to J.L. Woodson and I congratulated him on his appearance and then I advised him as a literary peer with words like, “If you are going to speak, get up there and take over. Don’t hold back. This is your world. Don’t be afraid. You can’t let them see you sweat. You have a prosperous career ahead of you. This is only the beginning. ”

Now J.L.  Woodson is the author of the book , “The Things I Could Tell You,” which sold maximally so who was I to tell J.L. any advice? However, what I loved was how he listened and said, “Yes, mam. I will do that.” I just wanted to tear because he was such a respectful and sweet person, and more than any author I had ever met. Where did he get this charm from?Naleighna is all business. Maybe this is how the Woodson men are. I am revealing this because the word is going to get around, and don’t say you didn’t here this from Disilgold first. J.L. has what it takes to be an actor as well. Will he ever pursue acting? I don’t know. But, I just see a young Denzel Washington in the making.

I really didn’t think he was listening, but then he asked questions on how can he improve which is a sign of top author on the rise.

This was a very intense moment because I really felt like I was helping J.L., but then something funny happy. J.L. said,” I will be 18 in a few months and legal age, and will you kiss me when I make it one day?”

Okay, now I was like where is that Naleighna Kai, she better take J.L. back home. How daring and bold, but a promise is a promise.

I told J.L. that I would give him a big smacker if he made it one day and we departed. I hadn’t seen J.L. Woodson for a few years until the Harlem Book Fair. and there J.L. was all rained on from a small rainstorm at the event. His clothes were drenched. He looked just like a football quarterback, strong, tall, dark and handsome.  The ladies began to swoon around him.

Then miraculously, Omar Tyree appeared and a lot of authors, plua a few celebs too like Mel Jackson. It is a fact, that Omar will take photos with authors he thinks has potential, but has a real grumpy demeanor. It’s kind of hard for Omar to share his reign, and why everyone loves the guy regardless and buys his books. We didn’t think he would agree with the photo, but he embraced his comrades for what is now a rare photo of a major Hollywood star, embracing a future producer and multi-million dollar NAACP IMAGE AWARD WINNER and New York Times Bestselling author, embracing a new up and coming author who afterwards became a NAACP IMAGE AWARD NOMINEE! Whew! Talk about good kharma.

It was one of those days. Everyone was soaking wet down to their underwear. It’s true. You can see this in the full photos which we will not release. That’s how badly it rained. I am a very smart dresser, so I had on a straw hat and black top so I wouldn’t fall prey to any faux pas pictures from media who are always out to get you.

Then, while noone was looking J.L. now 20 something asked, “Remember what you promised me?”

I could not resist and gave J.L. a big smack on what was supposed to be his cheek, but he turned his face full frontal and the media (paparazzi) caught the picture. You won’t believe this at all, but Naleighna Kai was standing right there to witness the entire scene. It could be like Cinderella and the evil stepmother looking over her kids Omar Tyree and Mel Jackson. And- I am the princess, but it rains at 12 noon and J.L. turns back into his soaked attire and runs away, but mama was not evilena at all. Naleighna just replied like a southern belle in high fashion couture, “What are you doing kissing my son?,” and I kid you not, she went back to styling her hair like a diva. Omar and Mel were just digging her style. Naleighna Kai is a fashinista with literary style.

Since that event, J.L. Woodson went on to become not only a NAACP IMAGE AWARD NOMINEE for Outstanding Teen Work, but Naleighna Kai went on to join the Strebor Books Inc. family under this pen name.  This makes for the FIRST MOTHER & SON REIGN from DisilgoldSOUL Magazine to grace our pages, and I couldn’t be anymore prouder to support a wonderful family in due time. Naleighna Kai’s time has come. She can breathe now with a sigh of relief that hard work does pay off and yes, you can manage your son’s career and still manage to support your career to the top. It’s called sacrifice. Publishing other authors books may have been an overload, but she was great at it!

International sensation, Zane acquired a unique distribution deal that supports many authors like Naleighna Kai whose small press company is just getting started. She’s made a name for herself and you can expect more fine works from the Macro Publishing family.

We requested a candid interview with Nalieghna Kai as her pen name and as Lissa Woodson to further give readers an idea of the mind behind a  literary powerhouse in the making.

Author: Naleighna Kai

Title: Every Woman Needs a Wife

Web site: www.naleighnakai.com

Email: naleighna@macropublishing.com

Disilgold: What can you tell the Disilgold community about yourself that will explain why Disilgold has sought you for a perSOULnalized interview?

Naleighna: Let’s see …. Heather Covington is everywhere the literary community congregates. She’s been an avid supporter of my son, J. L. Woodson, and finally I’ve had the opportunity to do the interview. I went from self-published author to Essence Bestseller and Black Expressions Bestseller. Several events that I’ve pulled together over the last few years have helped to support and promote other authors.

Disilgold: What is your latest book about?

Naleighna: Every Woman Needs a Wife is the hilarious, but thought-provoking story of a wife who does the “unthinkable.” Strolling in on Vernon and his mistress one night, the wife, Brandi Spencer, insists that the new woman in his life come home and earn her keep the honest way — on her feet helping the wife clean the house, keep the children and pay the bills, instead of laying on her back servicing the husband.

Tanya Kaufman has had one shock too many — one minute she’s a fiancée, the next she finds out she’s been the mistress all along. When Tanya shows up during the surprise anniversary party to take Brandi up on her offer, the women seize the opportunity to teach Vernon that infidelity will no longer come at the expense of the women’s time, money, and happiness. Vernon fights back by launching a high-profile court battle that doesn’t have a thing to do with splitting the money, keeping the house, or visitation rights.

Had any married couple ever fought for custody of…the mistress?

Disilgold: Wow, now that is a plot! How long did it take you to complete your book?

Naleighna: Two months. I started in March 2005 and it was at the printer the first week in May. Book Expo America 2005 was my incentive.  At the time, under my company, Macro Publishing Group, I was preparing my son and one other author for BEA. Then it hit me. I’m paying all this money to go to New York and I don’t have anything to show at the conference. I started writing in between working 9 to 5; editing two other books and getting things set to go at BEA, and it was a busy, busy, distracted time. But the book was done–in sections, sent to editors and proofreaders and then off to press. I didn’t read the book from cover to cover until Strebor Books (Zane) was set to print it for BEA 2006. When I finally got a chance to read it, I was like Damn, this is pretty good.

Disilgold: Remarkable. Sometimes deadlines are what you need to get works done. What were the happiest moments you have experienced while writing your latest book?

Naleighna: Getting it done. I decided to do this book at the last minute. Strange that I’d been writing for five years and it’s the book that I throw together at the last minute becomes the one that takes off.

Disilgold: Describe your writing style?

Naleighna: Humorous, thought-provoking, unique, heart felt.

Disilgold: Precisely. I couldn’t have said it better. How did you develop your writing style?

Naleighna: With so many Black women writing right now, our stories are a bit parallel. I decided that writing stories with a unique twist will be my niche.

Disilgold: Do you have a favorite author of all time or someone who inspired you to achieve your goals as a writer?

Naleighna: I don’t have just one. Octavia Butler, Mary B. Morrison, L. A. Banks, Zane.

Disilgold: Where do you see yourself as a writer ten years from now?

Naleighna: Owning a unique, literary based venue that promotes author friends and up-and-coming authors. Macro is now a literary agency focused on promotion and marketing.

Disilgold: What marketing tips can you provide to new authors?

Naleighna:Network, network, network. When your budget is low, choose events that have a high attendance rate: Book Expo America, Harlem Book Fair, Baltimore Book Fair, Printer’s Row Book Fair, etc. That way you’ll get more exposure for the amount of money you’re putting out. Also take advantage of those who do email marketing to a wide audience. Get a great publicist!

Disilgold: Yes, indeed. What other projects are you working on?

Naleighna: Open Door Marriage. The story of two women who decide since they haven’t been successful in relationships on their own, they want to find one man, train him and see if he’ll work for both of them. Followed by Was it Good For You, Too and Slaves of Heaven.

Disilgold: Whoa. I think the men will like that. Haha! What are your top ten favorite books right now?

Naleighna: Superwoman’s Child: Son of a Single Mother; Mind of My Mind, PatternMaster, Wild Seed, Survivor, Soul Mates Dissipate, When Somebody Loves You Back; Afterburn, Keeping it Real, Sista Got Game, The Vampire Huntress Legends, Sisters of APF…

Disilgold: When do you write and for how long?

Naleighna: Since I wear many hats, in order to get things done I sometimes I write in spells. When I’m in promotion/marketing mode I have a things to do list and when those are done; it’s back to writing. In December I finished the first draft of Slaves of Heaven; the second of Open Door Marriage, and the second of Was it Good for You Too? Rather than jump back in; I’m letting the books marinate and now my focus is on promoting and marketing my son’s book; my book to the Essence Stores, getting the tour events lined up and preparing for BEA. My goal is to have all the preliminary planning out of the way by the end of February; then it’s back to writing. I still carry my tablet with me everyday; but right now business calls.

Disilgold: Do you have a favorite location for writing?

Naleighna: I get the most writing done in the night club. Strange, I know, but it’s true. I write all of my books in long hand and something about having a great time and getting some chapters done always does well for me.

Disilgold: What method did you use to write or organize your book?

Naleighna: Actually, I picked up the Redline Method from my son. His goal in writing; no more than 7 pages, not less than 5. And he pulls it off!! I’m a wordy writer so I tried his method and it worked well for my last three books. I do a story flow (a chart which has a) viewpoint character b) location/setting c) action d) background and fill it out to the best of my ability; then I write what I feel. I may do chapters 1, 8, 13, 2, 35, etc. It’s not in order; but as long as I have the story flow; I know exactly where everything falls in place.

Disilgold:What three words best describe your writing style?

Naleighna: Lyrical at times; humorous and more of a storytelling vibe or movie scene being played out with words.

Disilgold: What other hobbies do you pursue when you aren’t writing ?

Naleighna:  Marketing, Event Planning, Dancing.

Disilgold: Are there any hidden jewels or talents that you possess that many of your readers may not know?

Naleighna: Not that I can share without blushing.

Disilgold: I’m sorry. Strike that question. Your personal life is confidential at Disilgold, but you GO GIRL! Where can folks buy your latest book?

Naleighna: Borders, Barnes & Noble and Walmart.

Disilgold: Where can folks meet you? www.naleighnakai.com  or www.myspace.com/naleighnakai

Disilgold: What have been some of your toughest obstacles as a writer?

Naleighna: Knowing what battles are important to fight and when others/people are a total waste of time.

Disilgold: This section of our interview requires brief responses. Are you ready to” Get PerSOULnal” Interview?

Naleighna: I’m ready!

The “Get PerSOULnal” Interview

Disilgold: What time do you awake normally every morning?

Naleighna: I don’t write in the mornings unless it’s to answer emails. I’m too busy trying to scramble and get to my day job.

Disilgold: What early morning rituals have followed for many years?

Naleighna: Wake up early as hell; sleep; wake up again; then push the snooze button about 5 times.

Disilgold: What are your favorite foods to snack on while writing?

Naleighna: Jerk Chicken Wings, Harold’s Chicken Wings, Smoothies, an Amaretto Stone Sour and Bailey’s Cream.

Disilgold: Do you watch television or listen to the radio when you’re writing, and if so, what do you watch or listen too mostly?

Naleighna: It depends on where I am. I don’t write at home; I edit at home. Since everything is written on tablets, nine times out of ten I’m in a noisy environment. When I’m editing, though; I’ll have on the television–possibly the History Channel or something more humorous.

Disilgold: What is your favorite book of all time?

Naleighna: Science Fiction: Mind of My Mind by Octavia Butler.

Non-Fiction: The Writings of Florence Scovel Shinn

Disilgold: What is your favorite magazine of all time?

Naleighna: Science of Mind.

Disilgold: Do you have an exercise regimen to suggest for busy writers?

Naleighna: Exercise? What’s that? Are you cursing at me?

Disilgold: Hahaha! What is your everyday outfit?

Naleighna: Business casual.

Disilgold: What is your favorite motto?

Naleighna: It’s from Mary B. Morrison: “I’d rather die a failure, than to have lived and never known whether I would become a success.”

Disilgold: What is your favorite time to put your writing pen down and rest?

Naleighna: 4:00 a.m. (when the club closes!)

Disilgold: Have you traveled anywhere besides your hometown and if so, where?

Naleighna: New York, Hawaii, the Bahamas, Jamaica, Mexico; California, Maryland, North Carolina, New Jersey, Florida, (shoot! I don’t remember all of the places. There’s a bunch more.)

Disilgold: It’s okay. Where is your dream vacation?

Naleighna: I’d like to do a world tour to all the places that won’t freeze my tail off.

Disilgold: What do you particularly like about the literary world today?

Naleighna: So many Black voices are being heard.

Disilgold: If you could leave one word of advice to people in general, what would it be?

Lissa: The obstacles you challenge today might be just above the feet that may have to carry you tomorrow. (Quote for school kids reading).

Naleighna: Actually the quote is “Be careful, the ass you kick today might be attached to the feet that will have to carry you tomorrow.” (THIS IS THE UNCUT VERSION FOR MEDIA AND GROWN FOLKS TO REFER TO.)

Message from founder of Daily Literary Dish

Folks, a lot has happened with YGA members. DOES NATIONAL BEST SELLING AUTHOR ERIC PETE EVER SMILE!

Eric Pete is the national bestselling author of several books, but the one we have full access to before it lands on stores nationwide is entitled, “BLOW YOUR MIND!”

This book is supposed to take the author to international superstardom according to critics and be “THE IT BOOK OF THE YEAR”, but rumors have been surfacing that the author never ever smiles.

We visited his website over at www.Ericpete.com to follow up, and was shocked to see an all new website with brand new photos. The rumors seem to be true. The author is not smiling on his site.

So we got our correspondents to contact Eric Pete directly and he refuted the rumors. He said, ” I do smile.” Than authors who we won’t shout out whose names begin with Karen, Kim and Rowena claimed that Eric Pete does smile at events, but you have to just approach him and he will smile.

Then we wanted to know why he was wearing that spiderman shirt and holding out his hand on the site. The photo is absolutely scary and frightening!

His response was, “I am reaching out to my fans, and I just like comic books.” I don’t know folks. Sometimes these authors become their characters. Look at Omar Tyree. He responded when we addressed him as Shareed Crawford in his new book, “The Last Street Novel.” Even Michael Baisden still thinks he’s the main character in his book, “God’s Gift to Women.”

Perhaps, Eric’s revealing a new fashion statement or something. No Enyce, no Phat Farm, and no Sean John….. it’s spidey wear folks

We aren’t going to call Eric out with the Literary Fashion Police just yet because maybe that is his new fashion line or something.

For those of you who don’t know, Eric Pete is the author who received top votes as the classiest  literary celeb.

Now the pic with the shades on is more like the Eric we know. He said he’s not changing his photo anytime soon, and is sincere about reaching out to his fans. Could be the shirt has something to do with the book? I don’t know about you, but I need to thoroughly read this book. Maybe there isn’t a correlation, but  it’s a question that is intriguing enough to find out.

You know a lot of literally artists send sublime signals through their websites. It’s like an inside industry thing. Either you are reading the books carefully or you just won’t get the message.  I do know that Eric Pete is going to crawl himself way up to the top like spiderman and we may even start wearing that shirt whenthe book reaches number one.  This is one hot author you have to check out right now. Leave a message for him. Visit his site at www.EricPete.com. For new photos of Eric smiling, visit www.Disilgold.com.

The YGA Pollers vote on which Celebrity Author has the best story in These are My Confessions: An Erotica Anthology. Is it Electa Rome Parks, Cheryl Robinson, Meta Smith or Joy King? You decide!

Story by Heather Covington

Visit www.Disilgold.com for photos of all Literary Divas on the rise.

We asked YGA secret pollers who read the new blazing hotseller, “These Are My Confessions”with story contributions by  Joy King, Cheryl Robinson, Electa Rome Parks and Me’ta Smith, who has got the steamiest erotica story?

We were shocked. Folks liked Joys use of explicit language for specific male body parts the best.  Electa Rome Parks followed with steamy journal writing in her same entitled story, These are My Confessions, than Meta Smith whose characters are in a love trance in Divas Need Live Too. Aw, how romantic and lovey dovey for the writer of the Rolexxx Club. Me’ta shows off her versatility. Cheryl Robinson, one of the very popular authors and noted sexy fashinista ladies on MYSPACE  came in last, but folks liked the creativity of her entry more so and felt that Strapped could have been a full length book.  She’s got a repressed murrerer on the loose in her story that could find its way onto the big screen. Don’t sleep if you dare.

Joy King’s “Love B-Ball Style” story exposes the consequences of young love and the transitions young women must endure to discover and decipher real love from infatuation which these kind of relationships can be a hard-hitting gamble.

Electa Rome’s “These are My Confessions” story takes readers right into the bed of Kennedy and Drake. She’s got the hots for a man who isn’t serious about their relationship. Go ahead and read the story and read Kennedy’s personal journal. The lady realizes love is blind not once, but twice and boy do we enjoy her mistakes. Drake is so hot, he’s double hot, but will Kennedy realize that Drake is playing vicious sex games? If you thought R.Kelly & Usher’s Song, “Same Girl” was a riot, wait until you read Electa’s delectable story.

Cheryl Robinson presents “Strapped,” a fantastical and humorous story about perilous internet dating centered around a Black Widow Serial Killer that becomes the intrigue and obsession of Mrs. Alexis Cartwright, a teacher who confronts her own inner demons and learns a few tricks from this serial killer in handling her own dilemmas. The question is, are these dilemmas by accident or on purpose. Men need to be careful with the objects of affection they desire. In Strapped, the consequences can be deadly.

Me’ta Smith’s “Divas Need Live Too” is a thrilling and insatiable quest of a young woman’s journey on finding live, and regardless if it doesn’t last tomorrow. Lucky is willing to let go of all inhibitions to satisfy Spock and can only hope he’s the one for her and she’s the one for him. This man is sexually charged and more than likely will stray as the reader senses page-by-page in this captivating short story page turner.

So there you have , the spiciest novel of the summer. If you haven’t picked up your copy, they may be all gone so you’ll have to order from your local store.  All I can say is this book is soooooooooo entertaining.

Hey Superhead Watch Your Language: Feedback from Community About Karrine Stefans

(DisilgoldSOUL, USA)- We polled YGA members about their pick for the most foul mouthed literary artist on line and we were shocked to visit Karrine Stefans website and hear such vulgarity from a lady giving advice to a young teenager contacting her on advice concerning obtaining a job as a video vixen and call girl.

Now ads are popping up in Vibe Magazine of porno tapes for sale featuring Karrine Stefans, and now folks are wondering is she an innocent victim of the industry or a business woman?

Okay, we’ll see if that entry was just a publicity stunt to get y’all folks attention and if she’s calmed down to really give sound advice which would be beneficial for young girls tuning in who look up to the National Bestselling author. Regardless what people say, she is responsible for her own success. She’s not the prettiest or most drop dead gorgeous on the planet, but she’s carved her niche in an industry that is volatile for most women and changed her life around for the better. Don’t you want to see her succeed ladies and gents? Come on, don’t player hate.

If so, do get her book , Diary of a Vixen Diary… Oh my bad, the Vixen Diaries available at www.Karrine.com or visit your local store this fall.

She’ll be at Hueman Bookstore in Harlem in October. For more information, visit www.Huemanbookstore.com.

Shocking Revelations in Larry King Interview with Star Jones: Why She Chose Surgery?

If you’ve seen Star Jones,a former host of the View, you may notice she looks absolutely fabulous. DisilgoldSOUL Magazine tuned in to the Larry King Show, and it is true…Star Jones admitted to obtaining gastric bypass surgery to shed all of those pounds that have her down to an amazing 145 pounds.

Star Jones mentions on another show that as a lawyer, one day she was reading a report of a dead victim of a crime. The report mentioned that the woman was morbidly obese. Star Jones mentioned that if she ever died, she wouldn’t want to be described in this fashion which is a poor excuse to go under the knife and endanger her life. She gave a better excuse on the Larry King Show when she talked about the effects of weight on one’s health. However, she also mentioned how 3 women from the same family experienced different results with the surgical procedure. One’s weight went up 100 pounds. The other maintained her weight for 8 years, but the last one died. People were concerned with Star Jones’ health because until now, noone believed that exercise helped her lose all of that weight alone. However, she’s not obsessed with being bone thin. She tells Larry King that she even had a bite from her favorite Rosco’s restaurant before the show, and instead of eating a big serving of bacon for example, she’ll eat 2 servings. She exercises regularly and feels better these days. When asked if she had any other surgical procedures, Star Jones said she needed a breast tuck and tummy tuck for the excess skin, but she’s pretty blessed everywhere else. Her arms look youthful and like your average young teenager. She’s really looking fabulous. Her hairstyle really frames her face well and the hair color is stunning. She seems more relaxed and poised and admits her demeanor on the View was an escapism from the pain she was facing inside, but noone sympathized with the irrate fat lady then. They dismissed her as unable to work with and argumentative. When Rosie O’Donnell went through her midlife crisis, it seems like Barbara Walters protected her as long as she could until she said the unthinkable. Plus, that Donald Trump fued was like a publicity stunt that just needed to go away. It really tarnished two people who were adorned in their hey day as icons in business and media. Now Whoopie has landed in the hot seat on the View, and hopefully her image won’t be tarnished as Star Jones after she left, but so far she has made a come back with  God’s grace and a good husband by her side despite rumors about his sexual orientation. He can be as sweet as he wants to be with a rich women like Star Jones by his side. She’s looking so hot, she’s got straight-on hands appeal right now  and for the men waiting on line for her hubby to mess up, Star Jones will continue to get better.

Visit www.Disilgold.com for news on more DisilgoldSOUL Magazine stars. To syndicate story, email Disilgold@aol.com or get the hell out of here and mind your business! It’s Star Jones time to shine. Have you read her book, SHINE! A national bestseller literary babies!

Move over HIP HOP, Pastor Rudy Rasmus Arrives with New DVD TRILOGY, “TOUCH” that Catches “O” Magazine’s Attention. Can we say another MILLION SUCCESS story since “The Secret”

Vol. I: TOUCH

His DVD Trilogy is called, “Touch”- Vol. 1. If you ask Pastor Rudy Rasmus, what is the glue behind the ministry success at St. Johns United Methodist Church, he’ll simply tell you “Folks feel the love!” Well, if you haven’t picked up the DVD yet, it’s now available and in demand!

“Such a simple way to describe the volumes of mobilized care and compassion that embody the Pastor Rudy experience. Spirit Rising Music takes on the challenge of immortalizing the feeling in Volume I: Touch – a trilogy of music, video and literary work for July 2007 release.

Pastor Rudy has found a way to share and regenerate the love with a cross-section of 9,000 people that make up the St. John’s United Methodist Church in Houston, Texas. It’s a ministry that is founded and built on meeting needs; with purity in purpose and presentation. St. John’s provides meals 7 days a week to the homeless community in downtown Houston, TX. distributing 15,000 lbs of fresh food every week. Drug rehabilitation, temporary shelter and social services are also offered as an extension of compassion.

Pastor Rudy uses a community network approach in establishing wholeness in individuals and families, and the church rallies and grows around it. The worship experience is simply an expression and celebration of the work.

“What we do on weekends is a unique – even an alternative view of church. It’s fun and connects with folks on the fringes of organized religion, as well as with people who are historically churched,” he says. Music often makes it easier to bridge the gap where there are cultural and experiential differences. Volume I: Touch embraces that as an expression and as a tool to bring all things together.

Pastor Rudy shares, “The music is a blended experience. We looked at this from a Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria perspective. Jesus told the disciples [Acts 1:8] that they would be His witnesses in Jerusalem – where all the church folks are, and in Judea – right on the outskirts where folks are a little bit familiar with church, and then Samaria – where folks have no clue about church. We took the three distinct ‘locations’ of church and brought those together in one project.” The music crosses those territories and wraps the love in packages palatable to just about everyone.

Ron Summers delivers the contemporary choir sound with infectious rhythms and thick choir harmonies. The first single from Volume I: Touch “Total Praise” is a high energy praise song and worship is sweetly presented on Ron’s ballad “With All My Heart.” The whole spectrum of church choir music is completed with Nikki Ross’ B-3 introduced “Peace,” the projects second single. Brian C. Wilson is the voice of what has been rightly coined as “neo-sacred” – R&B patterned vocals around songs that have religious content. “The Only Way” exhibits the collective of Wilson’s influences – Sam Cook, Fred Hammond and Stevie Wonder. His raspy tenor wraps around new-style altar appeal “Waiting to Turn” and easily grabs hearts and meets listeners right where they are.Throwing the musical rules out the window is Houston-based group Soulfruit. The more heavily R&B infused “Celebrator” featuring Adrian Anderson of platinum trio Trin-i-tee 5:7 and balladic “Nobody” appeals to the unchurched through mainstream rhythms and melodies. True to the Spirit Rising Music mantra, great music, great tracks to move and bounce to, but with a great Christian message.

To bring the experience to life is a bonus DVD and this summer a literary release Touch: The Power of Touch in Transforming Lives. The book outlines the methodology and theology of Pastor Rudy – the inclusive gospel resultant of seeing each person as God sees them. Valuing each life as He does. That’s the reason people feel the love. Along with the audio sensory explosion of the music and the visual illustration of the DVD which chronicles the lives of people in and around the St. John’s community, the book rounds out this groundbreaking multi-media ministry presentation.

In Pastor Rudy’s view, we don’t need to abandon church culture, but we need to redefine it to be more global. “I believe this is what we have to do in order to cross into the region where the largest untapped market is – in that place where folks understand church and have been exposed to it but have opted out of the whole church experience.” Pastor Rudy believes we do that by touching people spirit, soul and body. Volume I: Touch begins the outreach, and hopes folks feel the love.

Pastor Rudy’s hope for this project is also his hope for the global church “I’m hoping for a revolution of sorts where the project reminds the church of its social responsibility. I want this to serve as a reminder of the fact that we have missed millions of folks on the margin. What we are saying is this is an experience everyone can feel. The project Volume I: Touch is just a celebration, an expression of what we do.”

DISILGOLDSOUL DAILY LITERARY DISH: 50 CENT, OPRAH, USHER

(DisilgoldSOUL/BX,NY-August 7, 2007)- 50 Cent new AYO Technology album cut with Justin Timberlake receives positive reviews from YOUnity Reviewers although not as cutting edge and appealing as his “Get Money” Video. You see more of Justin Timberlake in this video and the video overshadows 50 Cent.  He makes the song. Any male singer could have sung Justin Timberlake’s chorus. Even Timba, the producer is looking more dapper these days, and should have had more  presence. Just because Justin  is an international singing sensation and heartthrob, doesn’t mean he has to stand out more in compilation album cuts. He is even out dancing folks lately. He’s been such a show off since his break up with Britney, but he better watch out, Britney is coming back. Just wait.

Overall, it’s definitely a great crossover song for  50 Cent and shows his versatility,” says a DLNA poller upon viewing the video on YOU TUBE.

Watchers of  repeat show of Oprah  this week enjoyed the presentation of celebrity choreographer, Tweety, who has worked with Jay Z, Beyonce’ and more artists creating appealing dance moves that give a cutting edge to videos and boosts sales. Oprah scored high points for participating in dance numbers like “The Humpty Hump,” “Old Man” and “Chicken Noodle Soup Dance.” Kids as well as adults enjoy these moves at the clubs and parties that bring out people’s personalities although out dated as of summer 2007.

Gayle and Oprah create a great vibe on tv and viewers would like to see more shows of variety that allow interaction with the audience. On a sad note, the Rutgers Basketball coach expressed that it was not her wish to take away Don Imus job as an on air personality. It seemed as if she just wants closure and an open forum of apology to the team mates whose glory was stolen. You can’t stop folks from applying descriptive words based on their visual summary. I personally don’t take offense to the word nappy. Most men I meet love my nappy, curly hair. They say I look like Pam Grier on a good day. LOL!

But- when you add a word that defames a person you don’t know, that’s where the problem lies. One statement Oprah said to the team that was just superb was,”You make me proud to same my name, WOMAN!”- in homage to Maya Angelou. Her words have shaped this nation and Oprah brings them to light internationally. That was a touching moment.

Big kudos to singing phenomenon Usher, who tied the knot with his fiancee’ this past Saturday in his lawyers office with Tameka Raymond. Apparently, his mother of his soon to be born child had complications and she had to be rushed to the hospital. His mother was present during the nuptials and so, Usher is officially off the market ladies and his music never sounded so good. Woman respect married male entertainers who are responsible fathers. I think his move made me a fan again. Besides Conan O’Brien mentioned playfully, “What  unscrupulous, hedonistic dirtbag  and paternity dodging sleezeball would not marry the mother of his child…” All I can say is, “Good for Usher and his beautiful wife. Don’t be fooled by racist media that labels all brown complected women as unattractive. Tameka is a brown beauty knock out. I hope she starts a fashion line and represents for all the brown beauties. She has personality, is down to earth, smart and I belive Usher’s new album coming out this fall will put him back on top where it should be. Never mind all of the sarcastic pop shots from media. When you’re hot, media talks about you, and all you can do sometimes is show that you are a better person to get them off your back. Usher’s back.

MAGAZINE FOUNDER TO MAGAZINE FOUNDER: A CANDID INTERVIEW WITH JAMES LISBON, FOUNDER OF AMAG! Discover the mind of a modern day media icon!

Hello James, I have known you since the inception of Disilgold. You reached out to the DisilgoldSOUL fam when I had the honor of presenting national poets on stage at the Harlem Book Fair. You took the only photo of me on stage at the Harlem Book Fair against the rich culture and street environment. It was my debut year as an author. You also, took photos of my guest poets Cynthia Highsmith Hooks and Terry Anne O’neal all the way from California. I grew to adore the raspy-voiced journalist from Brooklyn who would give me a holler in the Bronx and share words of encouragement. You had a playful street savvy nature about yourself with authors and were so down to earth, but make no mistake, I detected a humanitarian if I had ever had met one and I say this with utmost respect for you. YOU ARE A GREAT PERSON JAMES!You were at Denise Campbell’s Reclaiming Life Campaign in support of battered women. You have been there for all youth functions. Your publication  when in print captured my attention for hours. I grew to discover many businesses and authors on the otherside of town that I may have never known about. Your favorite line when you call Disilgold is “What up Heather B?” in homage to my rap college peer back in the day, but you know I gave up rapping years ago when spoken word art entered the scene. Finally, a home for poets and you found us all, supported us from the bottom to the top, provided venues and kept the faith. Today you are the founder of a publication that has paved the way for integral journalism  over at AMAG and as a media peer, I am proud to know and call you a lifelong friend. If there are 800+ reputable black magazine and press nationwide as my publisher, Tony Rose will attest because I keep mixing up new e-zines,forums and promotional journals online with the major press to give rise to new icons, I must say, I look forward to reading AMAG ONLINE and thank you dearly for the support you have shown of DisilgoldSOUL Magazine Online. So from sister to brother I wanted to find out what you are up to and discusss some important topics because the world is more than just regurgitating news, but rather making new news and forming our own opinions as rising journalists in media who have the attention of a vast network, but people may underestimate just how many people we collectively reach so I want you to share everything James as I have witnessed.

Disilgold:What are your new plans for AMAG in 2007?

James Lisbon:Nothing particularly new…

Disilgold: James?!!! You never start an interview with the word,”NOTHING!”

James Lisbon: Okay, okay….(laughing)

Disilgold: That’s why we all adore you. You are so down to earth…

James Lisbon: ….just continuing my relationships in all aspects of media coverage and the dissemination of knowledge and opportunities to continue to inspire the masses.

Disilgold: That’s what I am taking about. Now, you have been working on several youth programs. Explain your involvement and how other authors can support the AMAG mission?

James Lisbon: Yes. Although my goal is to inspire adult entrepreneurs I also understand that the young people cannot be left out. Through AMAG’s intern program we provide experience and not just with our publication but with life. We figured if we started reaching minds at 16 and 17 year old, it could only make them stronger on the mental level and as you know, experience is key. We have been involved with several youth groups, The Fort Greene Volunteers, the Lefrak City Youth and Adults Association, The Yes I Can Program and generally are just out there nurturing minds.

Disilgold: Who have you been working with on this major projects?

James Lisbon: I am honored to be working with Tony Herbert of the Professionals, Brenda Wyche of Black Star News, Congressman Edolphus Towns and Assemblyman Darryl Towns on the Central Brooklyn Youth Summit and Expo to be held at Long Island University Brooklyn Campus on September 8 & 9th. This is geared to provide resources to over 5000 youth in Brooklyn and the other boroughs (our site has detailed info for those looking to come out support and share resources).

Disilgold: Brenda is wonderful. I loved her coverage of the Harlem Book Fair! Who is your intern program sponsored by?

James Lisbon:Our Intern Program is primarily funded by authors and publishing houses. A huge thanks to all those authors who have stepped up big time and assisted-in addition to working with the magazine, interns who go to museums, sporting events and participate in youth programs. It would be extremely difficult to do this without their help. And thank you Heather for being one of the founding authors back in 2005.

Disilgold: Well, you know I am there for the youth as a long life educator, but tell me how can people assist your program?

James Lisbon: There are many ways one can assist but we mainly work in a cooperative manner with authors exchanging books for space on our site. If any authors or publishing companies are interested they can visit the site and contact me via email or phone. (james@awarenessmagazine.net  or call 212-413-9554).

Disilgold: Everyone is loving your AMAG online newsletter? Tell us how do you go about featuring stories?

James Lisbon:We always try to keep thing fresh , unique, positive and inspiring. We also attempt to ask the most interesting questions, and not previously asked by another publication; not just for the readers but also for the person we are interviewing.

Disilgold: I like that concept. This is how I feel about writing reviews. I want the author to know their strengths and weeknesses, so I do understand your loyalty to the author.

James Lisbon: Yes, and as you know it is not a small feat to continue keeping readers shocked, interested and committed, but we play by our own rules and are not overly concerned with opinions. Since our premier issue featuring Lorenzo Pace we held firm to be different and not just another publication mirroring what everyone else does. Since 2001, our mission was to shine light on those rising. Finding those on the come up worked and is working well, but today we get calls and email solicitations from those who have “made it”. It’s all good and shows that our individuality has paid off. There are few interviews we cannot get, from Russell Simmons to Robert Townsend who are just a phone call away.

Disilgold: Yes, we have reached that stage too, but still look for fresh talent as well. It’s nice though when successful big names give our community the time to share an interview that not only inspires others, but can lead to more support from the urban community often overlooked, but the biggest supporters. How can more businesses and authors support AMAG? We simply can’t live without our AMAG.

James Lisbon: Heather, we simply can’t live without content and readers! Support can come in many forms but the three most important forms are submitting content, spreading the word and advertising. I’ll focus on the latter. I suggest those looking for exposure to advertise and take advantage of this publication. Many do not understand the power that AMAG has. They know of us and respect us, but do not clearly understand that when one advertises with us, they are immediately on a different realm. The concept of emotional branding may not have filtered to many [which is another powerful topic altogether] but AMAG’s records speak for itself. Our community commitment, our editorial professionalism cannot be under estimated. When you advertise with AMAG you advertise with an entire support group of business and organizations who support us. Many of these are off line but huge in the community; The Williamsburg Music Center & Moshood are just two of our dynamic alliances, The Medgar Evers College Film & Culture Series, Manifest Your Destiny, The New Jersey Nets, The NY Mets, The UVCC, The New York Liberty…because we constantly promote offline with fliers and brochures. Awareness Magazine is AMAG but the Intern Program is also AMAG, Teen Awareness Day is AMAG, Dina’s Books & Crafts is AMAG, our networking sponsored events at Harlem’s Baton Rogue is AMAG. When we promote-if you remember, AMAG started as a Marketing Advertising and Promotional company in 1997,we promote all in our brochure, 65% of our readers are consumers not business owners and that’s what authors should want…someone who is going to buy their product, not say, “Oh I got a book too”. Although we represent literature and authors on the rise we are not  solely literary publication. We cover the entire gamut of the arts, business and the private sector. So when folks at the Black Spectrum Theatre read AMAG Online! They are not authors, but will say, “Hey that sounds like a good book and it is in AMAG…I know how they roll, let me check it out.” I say to those looking to brand, sale and establish a press kit of substance and give us a call. Our rates are reasonable and our reputation is solid.

Disilgold:What new projects are you working on ?

James Lisbon:There are a few as always. The Youth Summit, creating more video files for our website and for authors we will also be looking to start another Authors on Tour at NY Public Libraries. The last season went ok, could have been better, but we  sponsored the event and had authors like William Frederick Cooper, Renee Flagler, K’Wan, DuEwa Frazier, and Sanya D. Hudson Payne come out for book signing and discussion, so we are looking to start that up again hopefully this November.

Disilgold: What have been some obstacles you have overcome?

James Lisbon:Obstacles are on- going and honestly once you get past them I do not view them as obstacles but merely an experience. Time management however always seems to be lurking in the shadows.

Disilgold:What’s in store for readers in the next issue?

Disilgold: I have an interview with Eric Jerome Dickey on the 7th at HueMan. I thoroughly enjoyed his last two books; Sleeping with the Enemy and Waking With Strangers. A Recap of The NY International Latino Film Festival, The Sam Clay Show (Business owner spotlight), looking to complete a series on Forest City Ratner Companies and the Nets Stadium in Brooklyn, and continue our summer health watch.

Disilgold: Eric Jerome Dickey took the time to buy my book when I as just a fledgling author at the Circle of Sisters Expo. I am looking forward to this interview. How can readers subscribe to AMAG?

James Lisbon: Simply log onto www.awarenessmagazine.net  and type email in appropriate spot on front page of site.

Disilgold: Well, James it is always wonderful talking with you. You are a sincere and hardworking man who deserves the best at AMAG. Keep shining.

A Marissa Monteihl, Author HOT BOYZ, Shares the makings of her Hot selling Book, New HOT BOYZ Contest and Upcoming Hot Girlz Contest for new book landing in 30 Days!

Marissa: “Back in 2002 I remember driving through the upscale area of Ladera Heights in Los Angeles while listening to the song by Missy Elliott called Hot Boyz . The song denoted men with Lexus jeeps and Benz jeeps and platinum Visas and bling. As I drove along the tree lined streets with the manicured lawns and million dollar plus homes, a man stepped to his Rolls Royce as his wife stood next to him offering a parting kiss. She then stepped to her brand new, golden Jaguar. I thought to myself, Hot Boyz would be a great title for a book about well to do black folks (or at least perceived to be well to do), and how interesting it would be to focus the story on three brothers, who on the outside, had money and fame and yes, the platinum Visas, yet they still had problems, faced challenges with race, their businesses, aging parents, growing teenagers, and yes, relationship issues.

And so, the book called Hot Boyz was born in 2004. My publisher, who in 2002 picked up my first title that I had originally self published, mentioned that we might need to change the title from Hot Boyz to something else – we tossed around Keep Up With the Joneses, Ladera Heights, heck I even suggested More Money More Problems, but we stuck to the original title. As the publication date approached, I came up with an idea for a Hot Boyz contest to promote the release. I contacted cruise lines, and health clubs, and fragrance companies, and stores in Ladera Heights, including Magic Johnson’s Starbucks and Fridays restaurant. They all donated prizes to the winner. And we advertised our search for the Hot Boyz contest, denoting men who have it going on, who cherish family, who work hard, who respect women, who explore their purpose, and who love themselves. We narrowed the search down to three men, who performed and were interviewed at my book launch. My dear author buddies Mary B. Morrison and Victoria Christopher Murray served as judges and narrowed it down to two men. The audience chose the winner by applause, and the winner, A.J. Mason was crowned. He decided that the best person to take on the cruise to Mexico was his father.

A.J. will always be the official Hot Boy, however, I stay mindful of the praise and appreciation that our men need – who are often misunderstood and in my opinion, under-appreciated for their worth, their strength, and their abilities. We as women have indeed become so liberated, that at times, men don’t feel needed or respected. I enjoy the terms king and queen, and I think we need to compliment our men and refer to them as kings. Surely, their actions demonstrate much more than what they say, yet we as women can surely focus on what we say as well.

As my MS page has grown in popularity, I have connected with so many awesome men and women. Last June, I decided to choose 28 men who were selected as Hot Boyz for the month of July. The appreciation expressed by these men was astounding. The men who were chosen sent messages my way expressing how grateful and honored they were. Some said it was perfect timing, as they were in need of a pat on the back. And now for the month of August, we have men who are serving in Iraq, ministers, models, men who have survived shootings and turned their lives around, men who have fought for custody of their children, revolutionaries, and men whose heroes are their grandmothers. Most are college graduates, but not all, some have masters degrees, but not all, we have jazz musicians, one is a talented fellow author, some are athletes, actors, business owners and more. And I joke about how it helps that they are guy candy, as I consider all of them to be good looking in different ways, but I wanted to offer a small gesture that was in line with my best selling book thus far, the Hot Boyz. This is no sure for cancer, but it is my small way of having fun on my page, and as Angie Stone says in the song Brotha (which is the song I use to serenade these men), these are our kings, our fathers, our sons and we need to remind them to stay strong and express how proud we are of our men. I am here because of a brotha, and I have raised two brothas.

Along the same line, we women, with all of our strengths and gifts and talents and responsibilities, deserve to be acknowledged as well. And so for August, I will honor 28 Hot Girlz! I’ve already received nominations for that round. Just having fun and loving what I do for a living. And in my opinion MS has been a valuable tool for authors to reach out to other writers, as well as reach out to our cherished and loyal readers. More “hot” drama to come . . . ”
