11. Will Baby Face and Tracie now get back together? And- will people think that Baby Face and Tracie pulled a scam with Eddie?

12. Is Eddie Murphy’s and Tracie Edmunds situation major enough to replace Brittney’s reign in the tabloids?

13. Who fairs out worse from this news, Tracie or Eddie?

14. Will it be possible for any media entity to get a soundoff with both Eddie and Tracie?

DisilgoldSOUL Magazine Interview: Sticky Fingaz with Kam Williams

The Blade Interview with Kam Williams

Headline: Sticky Stuff

Visit www.Disilgold.com for photos and interview on NEW TV ACTORS link. Goes live in 24 hours!

Born in Brooklyn on November 3, 1973, Kirk Jones joined the rap game as a member of the hardcore hip-hop group Onyx, along with Sonsee, Big DS and his cousin, Fredro Starr. Better known as Sticky Fingaz, he’s recorded five albums with Onyx, plus two solo CDs of his own.In 1995, he made his screen debut in Spike Lee’s Clockers, and he has already added about another 40 credits to his filmography. He’s appeared in a variety of movies, ranging from gangsta sagas such as In Too Deep and Dead Presidents to urban comedies like Malibooty and Next Friday to mainstream flicks like Flight of the Phoenix. On TV, he’s enjoyed roles on both comedies and dramas, including CSI: Miami, New York Undercover, Nash Bridges, The Parkers, The Twilight Zone, The Shield, Law & Order, Over There, House of the Dead and Tell Me You Love Me. But he’s probably most closely associated with the title role of the television version of Blade, where he played a half-man/half-vampire with super-human powers. With the complete series being released on DVD, he talks here about that show and about what’s next in his illustrious career.

KW: I want to start by expressing my condolences on the passing of your brother, X-1.

SF: Thanks, I appreciate it, although he wasn’t actually a blood brother. A long time ago we started a group together called Gang Green. Our demeanors were so similar, everybody started calling us brothers.

KW: Well, I’d still like to express my condolences, since you were close. What does the name Sticky Fingaz mean?

SF: It means: Everything I touch, I take.KW: I read that you left a gun behind after a stay in a luxury hotel. Seems like you forgot something. That doesn’t sound very sticky-like.

SF: [Laughs] It wasn’t mine. Somebody else must have left it there. I don’t know.KW: Have you ever met another person with the name Sticky Fingaz?

SF: Never.

KW: I didn’t think so. Neither have I. So, how did you enjoy doing Blade?

SF: I loved it. It was incredible.

KW: Were you comfortable with the violence and bloodsplurt?SF: Oh, I love all the gore. [Chuckles]

KW: How demanding a schedule did you have while shooting the series?

SF: Not only do you have twelve or thirteen hours on set per day but, outside of that, you gotta go through all the vigorous training: martial arts, kickboxing, sword work, wire work, stretching. And on top of all that, you have to know your lines, and you get hurt occasionally. So, it was really cutting into my party life.

KW: Yeah, whenever I interview TV actors, they say how much of a daily grind the work is.

SF: Figure it this way: Blade the TV show was an hour long drama every week, right? A typical movie is about two hours long and takes like three months to shoot. We’d only take eight days to shoot a one hour episode. So, not only were we going through all the rigorous training, but we had to film in one-eighth of the time of a normal movie. It was really crunch-time.

KW: Do you have a preference for making movies over TV shows as a result?

SF: No, I don’t really have a preference. I like ‘em both.

KW: What about comedy versus drama?

SF: I prefer action, although, don’t get me wrong, I like comedy, too.

KW: Which do you enjoy more, rapping or acting?

SF: You know what? I’ve never been able to answer that question directly, and that’s why I recently finished writing, producing, directing and starring in my own movie, called A Day in the Life in which basically, all of the dialogue is in rap. KW: Like a rap opera?

SF: I don’t think that’s the proper word to describe it, but yeah it’s like a rap opera.

KW: Why don’t you call it a hip-hopera?

SF: Nah, that sounds kinda cheesy. This is a regular movie with action, sex, violence and everything. It’s just that all the dialogue is in rap. But it doesn’t feel like rap, but like regular dialogue, because they’re talking to each other about the situations that are going on in the movie.

KW: That’s interesting. It sounds like a trademark David Mamet play where the actors speak in a staccato cadence. I heard Troy Garity’s in your movie. Isn’t he Jane Fonda’s son?  SF: He sure is. He’s good, too. He plays a cop.

KW: Also Mekhi Phifer and Michael Rapaport, who’s in a lot of black movies.

SF: He’s half black?KW: What?

SF: Not really, but he is. KW: He has a black vibe.

SF: I gave him a new saying, “Once you go rap, you never go back.” He’s my boy.

KW: When do you expect your next solo album to drop?

SF: Probably April or May, alongside the movie.

KW: I’m sure you’re aware that in response to the uproar over Don Imus, Master P and Romeo have launched a clean record label. Are you going to write PG-rated rap lyrics?

SF: Never! I fee like this: a curse word is only a curse because society labels it a curse. For instance the word “f*ck” could mean “love” and the word “love” could mean “f*ck” if they labeled it that way. Words are only sounds, you understand?KW: Yep.

SF: All words come from sounds. The whole human world is surrounded by words, while the rest of the world is surrounded by sounds. We humans have transformed sound into words, and then Big Brother, the government, what have you, has decided to call certain words curse words, even though there’s freedom of speech. They’ve censored certain words to show their power. I just feel that since I wasn’t born when those laws were created, I shouldn’t have to follow all of them. I’m going to tell you something. The Hip-Hop Generation is so smart that we created new curse words that aren’t even in the dictionary.

  KW: Like what?

SF: The new word for “bitch” is “blick.” How are they going to censor that? They can’t even bleep that because they don’t even know it’s a curse word yet. We’re too smart for them.

KW: I think African-American culture has, historically, always changed whenever the mainstream has attempted to co-opt it, as if to say, “You can’t take our soul.”

SF: Exactly.

KW: What advice do you have for anybody who wants to follow in your footsteps?

SF: Follow in my footsteps? Don’t follow in my footsteps. Make your own path. You’re your own person, so you gotta create your own path and your own footsteps. Don’t ever follow in anybody’s footsteps, because you’re always going to be led astray.

KW: I know that you’re from Brooklyn. I went to high school in Bed-Stuy at the corner of Nostrand Avenue and Carroll Street, where Medgar Evers College is now. Do you know that area?SF: Of course. I used to live not too far from there. On Franklin and President.

KW: I grew up in St. Albans. Where in Queens did you live when you moved there?

SF: Southside Jamaica. KW: That’s right next to St. Albans. Because of Jimmy Bayan, realtor to the stars, I have to ask: Where in L.A. you live now?

SF: Woodland Hills, although I call it Hoodland Hills. [Laughs]KW: Anything else on the horizon for you?

SF: I’m also working on a new Onyx album, a collaboration of hip-hop and rock & roll called The Black Rock.

KW: Well, I really appreciate the time, Sticky, and best of luck with all your ventures.

SF: Bet, thank you, brother.

Sneak Peek at Grounbreaking Interview with Tonya Blount: Bringing Domestic Violence to the Forefront.

Author: Tonya Blount
Web site: www.tonyablount.com
                 www.resurrectionofme.org
Email:  tonyablount@yahoo.com

Disilgold: What can you tell the Disilgold community about yourself that will explain why Disilgold has sought you for a perSOULnalized interview?I am an author, playwright, Talk Show Host, domestic violence advocate and CEO/founder of Leave the Wilderness, a non-profit organization that aids, uplifts and assist battered women and their children.
Disilgold: What is your latest book about? My latest book, The Resurrection of Me will be released in June 2008.  It’s a spiritual memoir that picks up where my debut novel, Leaving the Wilderness ended.  The release of Leaving the Wilderness and how God transformed my life from being a battered woman that nearly lost her life to having a national ministry uplifting, assisting and empowering battered women and their children and mentoring women to be the best that they can be.

Disilgold: How long did it take you to complete your book?  It took nearly 8 months to write.  However, I did take breaks from time-to-time.

Disilgold: What were the happiest moments you have experienced while writing your latest book? Wow, there were so many.  Just writing this memoir really took me to another place.  I have never experienced freedom the way I did writing The Resurrection of Me.  I always tell people that Leaving the Wilderness liberated me but writing this memoir allowed me to really take a look at where I had came from–a broken battered woman to a woman that was sharing with the world my soul and how with faith nothing is impossible.

Disilgold: Describe your writing style?
I write with a bit of poetic flair…
Disilgold: How did you develop your writing style?
I just began writing.  I am a singer, as well and when I perform I dig really deep.  I take the same approach with writing…I dig deep into the souls of the characters that I write about.  I befriend them.  I remember when I had finished writing my third novel, Cha-Ching, I cried for two days after the ending of the book.  I had become so connected–spiritually and emotionally to the character, Storm.  I was surprised at how sad I was.

Disilgold: Do you have a favorite author of all time or someone who inspired you to achieve your goals as a writer?I have many favorite authors…too many to name.
Disilgold: Where do you see yourself as a writer ten years from now?
Uh, at the moment, I believe I will be retired…and sharing my gifts in other ways. However, I pray that my novels and my memoir will touch readers for many years…even after I have made my transition.  Disilgold: What marketing tips can you provide to new authors?I think most new authors are doing this now…sending out e-mail blasts, networking and promoting on myspace.com.
Disilgold: What other projects are you working on?
Right now, I am preparing for a documentary chronicling the rise of domestic violence survivors.  The documentary is entitled, The Resurrection of Me:  Domestic Violence Survivors Share Their Stories.  I am also working on a domestic violence awards ceremony and conference which will be held in Brooklyn, New York during Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Disilgold: What are your top ten favorite books right now?
The Measure of A Man by Sydney Poiter, Pursuit of Happyness by Chris Gardner, Eternal Victim, Eternal Victor by Donnie McClurkin, A Woman Scorn’d by Dorothy Goins, Rewriting the Script by Arlether Wilson, The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold, The Five People you Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom, There’s Always a Reason by William Frederick Cooper
Disilgold:When do you write and for how long?
I generally write in the wee hours of the morning until I fall asleep.
Disilgold: Do you have a favorite location for writing?I love to write in my bed with the laptop.
Disilgold: What method did you use to write or organize your book?
I always write from the beginning to the end.  I can’t write one chapter for the end of the book and go back to the beginning.
Disilgold:What three words best describe your writing style?
Emotional, Spiritual, Uplifting.
Disilgold: What other hobbies do you pursue when you aren’t writing ?
When I have time…and that doesn’t happen very often…I love to crochet, and draw.
Disilgold: Are there any hidden jewels or talents that you possess that many of your readers may not know?
Well, I think most people know I sing, but I also play the piano.  I used to play when I was child until I started having children.  Now that my children are grown, I have the passion again and I having been playing again.  I love it!

Disilgold: Where can folks buy your latest book?Well, The Resurrection of Me will not be released until June 2008.   Cha-Ching which was released in 2006 is available in most bookstores and online at amazon.com, bn.com and walmart.com Disilgold: Where can folks meet you? I am all over.  LOL.  I have a calendar on my website: www.tonyablount.com  which we generally try to keep updated.  We also plan to place my calendar on my myspace page at www.myspace.com/tonyablount
Disilgold: What have been some of your toughest obstacles as a writer?
My first two novels were self-published.  It was incredibly difficult to get the book into stores.  Distribution is another full-time job…which I didn’t enjoy and wasn’t prepared for.  I just wanted to write and have folks read my story.
Disilgold: This section of our interview requires brief responses. Are you ready to” Get PerSOULnal” Interview?

The “Get PerSOULnal” Interview
Disilgold: What time do you awake normally every morning?  About 5:30. Disilgold: What is your writing fuel in the morning? Music…and just life.  Things happen in our everyday life that inspires our writing.
Disilgold: What early morning rituals have followed for many years? Praying, listening to music, and calling my mother.

Disilgold: What are your favorite foods to snack on while writing? chocolate, chocolate and a Pepsi.  I know, that’s terrible.
Disilgold: Do you watch television or listen to the radio when you’re writing, and if so, what do you watch or listen too mostly?
I love to listen to music when I am writing.  It all depends on what I’m writing.  Sometimes, I listen to jazz, R&B…slow jams….  For The Resurrection of Me, I listened to a lot of Rachelle Ferrell (Jazz) and Gospel.
Disilgold: What is your favorite book of all time? Uptown, Downtown.  My first grade textbook which introduced me to the wonderful world of writing.  With the exception of the Bible, nothing has been able to replace it.

Disilgold: What is your favorite magazine of all time? Essence.

Disilgold: What is your everyday outfit?  Pants suit and high-heeled pumps or boots  (I’m always working).
Disilgold: If you could inspire a child, what would you say?  You were born with everything you need to succeed in this life.  Never minimize your dreams and keep God first.

Disilgold: What is your favorite motto?  Re-examine all you have been told…Dismiss what insults your soul.  Walt Whitman.
Disilgold: What is your favorite time to put your writing pen down and rest? During the early evening.

Disilgold: Have you traveled anywhere besides your hometown and if so, where? The funny thing is, I hate flying…but I love to meet and help people and I have traveled all over the country.

Disilgold: Where is your dream vacation?  Paris.

Disilgold: What do you particularly like about the literary world today?  Entrepreneurship.   Some people may say there are too many books, too many new authors…I look at it as we are taking advantage of an opportunity that wasn’t available to our parents or grandparents.  Since most new books are being self-published–with every new book that is released, another person has become CEO of their company.  There is absolutely nothing negative about power.

Disilgold: If you could leave one word of advice to people in general, what would it be? God.  Heather, thank you so much for the opportunity.  You are a gem!

Exclusive Article: What’s Really Happening to Black Bookstores Closing Down!

According to Disilgold insiders, the economy’s recession has forced many businesses, namely black bookstores out of prime areas due to fluctuation in taxes, electricity and even water usage expenses. Prime realtors looking to buy out bookstores to build large chain stores also, close out bookstores with mediocre traffic. Just think of your regular fashion boutique with crowds of customers all day. Most bookstores have a sparingly amount of visitors that trickle in to buy texts, novels and books, leaving end of the month expenses and rent for space unfulfilled.

Yes, bookstores could rent a cheap cubicle office in any trendy state-of- the art loft in Manhattan to look large and in charge for only $600 books with a business partner, but unfortunately, you couldn’t fit the inventory a bookstore carries in a small cubicle with employees facing the wall. That just isn’t happening and this is worse than these tiny and narrow brownstones in Harlem turning into gift and novelty shops that you’re afraid to turn around in without breaking something. Cutesy, but bookstores need space and lots of it for signings, events, and to attractively display books that may be of vast interest to booklovers. It obviously takes money to make money, but there is only one problem, most black bookstores are behind in the expenses and inventory, inadequately staffed and just can’t handle the strain of too many book returns.  Perhaps, non of these reasons are why Karibu Bookstores closed down.  Sometimes, owners wish to take their profits and bail out when they see a down trend in the market.

Bookstores may be at fault for nurturing hype and feeding their customers tons of it making them crave more of the junk like a Pavlov experiment gone bad. Well, as the saying goes, what you sow is what you reap. You give kids candy, they’ll want more, but if you give readers garbage, whether it stinks or not, you’re guilty of conditioning their senses to think they need it from gossip and tabloids to severe hype and sexploitation of celebrities. However, once readers know they have been fooled, they grow less trusting of buying books.

With 3/4 of the nation in debt and many companies resorting to increasing interest rates, the average African American family can no longer afford books as a luxury. More and more families are looking to resources with information which leave out novels that fulfill the last heirarchy of needs of human beings and that is  ENTERTAINMENT.

Even Blockbuster stores closed down in New York when Tivo television became a growing and cheaper trend for movie watchers. So it was inevitable that stores  for other less interest forms of entertainment globally would begin to take a dip in profits.  With the computer age, people are resorting to e-books and seem to be glued to the computer every day leaving less time to get to the bookstores.

Finally,  even with top novelists attracting reluctant readers into bookstores, not enough book fans are filtering into stores. Many booklovers resort to swapping books, waiting for discounts and even visiting author’s websites for discounted books. Diehard booklovers may buy books like eyecandy that attract the eye with tempting bookcovers, but just as many return books to purchase new books. This is creating major paper work for bookstores with high inventory who otherwise may have dealt with individual self-publishers, but rather working with larger distributors. It doesn’t help that many self-published authors don’t have enough book inventory to supply the demand of fans, so very often the books just aren’t available in bookstores.

Regardless, of why Karibu closed with hints featured in the Washington Post, it is evident that many bookstore owners are now sweating bullets as they try to figure out if they are the next big meltdown. My only solution when this kindof crisis arises is for forums, bookclubs and book lovers to get online and encourage booklovers to visit their local store and support their books. There isn’t a single black owned bookstore I have visited that can’t say Heather Covington never purchased a truckload of books. Like Mary J. Blige old jam goes, I TRY, but everyone’s got to get their ass up and go to the bookstore or we may all lose out. Don’t think this is just a problem for authors. You simply won’t find the variety of African American books anywhere else than in a black bookstore.

Heather Covington is a celebrity photojournalist, entertainment critic and book reviewer for Disilgold Soul Magazine as featured at www.Disilgold.com.  Her articles, press releases, reviews and photos have been featured in many major publications. In April 2008, she launches her first urban novel, TEKILA NIKA: THE FORBIDDEN BRONX VIDEO DIARIES and GOD’s 24 HOUR MAKE-OVER among several former titles now available from Disilgold Publishing like The Disilgold Way: Countdown 101 From Writer to Self-Publisher. (www.Heather-Covington.com)

EXCLUSIVE NEWS: KARIBU, The World’s Largest African American Bookstore Closes Its Doors Forever

When the beloved Simba Sana released the news that all Karibu Bookstore chains would be closing, a moment of silence seemed to be felt on the net . The news was released by the PORT OF HARLEM  MAGAZINE by Publisher Wayne! The question arises, “What does this mean for the state of black publishing when the largest chain closes down?” This is certainly a very sad moment in literary history. Karibu Books was instrumental in promoting books sales of primarily African-American books.

Karibu simply addressed its customers with a heartfelt and well detailed letter stating,

“After 15 years of service within the Washington, DC metropolitan area, Karibu Books, a Black bookstore chain will be closing its doors.  We sincerely thank each and every one of you for your patronage and support. We are optimistic that our mission to empower and educate through a comprehensive selection of books by and about people of African descent will continue to resonate within the communities we proudly served.

Since 1993, we have been blessed to help thousands of local, regional and national authors share their incredible stories of faith, hope, love, peace, politics and race.   We cannot begin to express our gratitude for the countless authors who have graced our six stores and enriched our customers lives.

On Sunday, January 27th, We will be closing our Security Square (Baltimore, MD) and Forestville locations.  The remaining locations, Bowie Town Center, The Mall at Prince Georges and Iverson Mall will close on Sunday, February 10th. Our Pentagon City store is already closed.

Effective immediately, all inventory at all locations will be 50% off.  All fixtures will also be available for purchase on February 10th. See individual store managers for more information.

Again, we respectfully thank you for your loyalty, laughter and love.  What an honor and privilege it has been to serve our community!

Sincerely,

Simba Sana

Heather Covington’s Top 10 HEATLIST COUNTDOWN of the Week- Marion Jones,Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, LL Cool J., Mary J. Blige, Wyclef, Timbaland

Check daily for new stories provided courtesy of www.Disilgold.com.

#10- Was Marion Jones fairly sentenced for using performance enhancement drugs during the World Olympics?-

I think Marion Jones was very humble and dignified for admitting she used performance enhancement drugs during the Beijing Olympics. She did the crime, so obviously she would be sentenced to time, but the question everyone is asking is if the time fits the crime?  It seems like America’s pop tart celebrities only have to spend their body weight in minutes in jail for crimes like drunk driving and assaulting people, but here is an honest sports figure doing the right thing, was sort of tempted by AMERICA to win the medal by any means necessary, but she’s stripped and treated worse than a dog in a dog fight. As a result, she lost all of her medals (5 gold and 2 bronze), her titles, has to repay monetary fees, do 400 hours of community service, and serve time in the slammer for 6 months all because the courts want to make an example of her to other athletes. I think the reason for justifying any of these actions is to show the world that America believes in honoring its laws. However, with the character of Marion Jones who is no threat to anyone, but herself for abusing her body with drugs that can have an adverse effect later on, she would have been better suited to give America a public apology and just serve community service. America needs to go after the drug traffikers!

#9 Should Media Be Allowed to Publish Unfounded Gossip and Destroy the Careers of Celebrities?

“A steriod crackdown has successfully pinpointed a drug pharmeceudical company called Signature which may have leaked reports of celebrities using aliases to retrieve performance enhancement drugs. These reports remain unfounded as of today. Some well noted celebrities named in the scandal are Mary J. Blige, Tyler Perry, L.L. Cool J. Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, and Wyclef.  Yes, the guys who have been fit since Day 1. LL is actually smaller than he was back in the day. Chromatin and Creatine will rip up any fit man’s body or over the counter products on the market. Mary has utilized trainers that have written exercise books and are experts. She’s been fit since her Real Love video with my friend dancing in the background.  She’s actually smaller than she ever was. Let’s see, Tyler Perry…??? He’s a big guy, period.  50 Cent is not even that big. Anyone can get that V-back with 50 Cent’s mentality. Have you read his background? When a black man gets mad, they take out their frustrations on their body with gangster workouts.  Dr. Dre is the only one who looked ridiculously big at an award show and Timbaland has always been heavy, but I have to give it up, they look fabulous with those chiseled faces and buff bodies. Let’s hope they are just in the gym and working hard. Then again, styles have changes and folks are wearing  more fitted clothes these days.

Reports indicate the celebrities have not been reported to have done anything wrong, nor guilty of using any performance enhancement drugs, but if we go back in history and recall the Salem Witch Trials where women who could float and didn’t drown after being tossed in a lake were accused of being witches, creating a “you’re darned if you are a witch and darned if you are not a witch” effect, this form of media execution is no different.

Fans of these well-noted artists say this method of unfounded media is also a form of modern day “High Tech Lynching” and a new form of overt racism.  However, the question is do the fans of these artists believe the recent allegations and will this damage these particular artists’ careers? It is evident that when you push today’s artist to be perfect, they will resort to many enhancement procedures and risk their lives. I believe the only value in going after celebrity users of enhancement performance drugs is to have those caught speak to kids. Steriods may lead to kidney failure, hair loss, penial and erectile dysfunction and death in men!

I’m glad these artists are doing well regardless, and if not guilty, able to ignore this media witchhunt and not let those jealous bastards  in media steal their shine. I would suggest these celebrities read Psalm 35 and wish their enemies to hell if these reports are untrue. It’s just not right to do this to artists unless there is a court hearing that proves verity.

Mary is ruling, Tyler is winning, 50 is nearly a billionaire and Dr. Dre isn’t going anywhere.  Sometimes folks are just so jealous of celebrities physiques. Get over it! Happy Birthday Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. RIP!

#8- Did Hillary Clinton cross the line by stating the Civil Rights Act was placed into effect when President Lyndon B. Johnson signed it?

Any second grader would know that for any act to be placed in effect, a residing president must sign it.  Duh! However, DLNA pollers have asked questions of her purpose for making such a pompous statement and motive. Was it to validate that it takes a president who is on the African-American community’s side to make acts as such possible thus giving weight to the importance of electing a president in favor of Civil Rights, or was she simply downgrading the importance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. struggles as the most influential in making the Civil Rights Act a fruition? Regardless, it was a statement made in poor taste and primarily due to most women’s need to validate their wide array of intelligence and fact savvy or is this a stereotypical statement as well. My bad! It was a fact that one of her legal aides obviously researched, so it sounded good because it shows she knows her Civil Rights Act facts, but, but, but…. if there is a decision on a national level to be made and she isn’t able to control her statements as to not offend anyone, but rather  bring people together for change, this world might be in jeapardy, right? Or maybe her comment was not intended as anything but to relay facts and everyone should squash  the issue. Well, not so fast. So far, there have been so many pop shots from the Clinton Camp that have reached a national level, Hillary may have this time, put her foot in her mouth. Mind you, I like Bill Clinton. Hillary may be ruining his rep. And- getting someone like Bob Johnson, a billionaire who would want to keep his billions I guess, because he still has it, rather than giving it away…. sends a message of the rich getting by with power and playing a real game of slingshot politics. I bet Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. shivered with this recent one, and it’s going to be really cold when Hillary arrives in New York. Dirty politics is not accepted in New York. This isn’t a black or woman thing as she has openly said to millions of listeners as a basis for Democrats to come out and vote. I think that 400,000 pay check as the president is becoming a driving force because when folks get dirty, that has to be the only reason. Hillary have mercy. Don’t mess with the KING!

How do you write a screenplay? by Heather Covington

A lot of folks have been asking me questions on how to write a screenplay, so I thought I would share some tips based on my own completion of a screenplay for Tekila Nika: The Forbidden Bronx Video Diary Tales that I endured with all humility and humbleness. It ain’t easy folks when you are writing for yourself, but achievable.

Hopefully you have completed the book version of your screenplay with plenty of dialogue among your characters, ample character and scene development.

I am a believer in research so I acquired samples of registered screenplays from producers to decide which template would best fit my screenplay. I also checked out some demos for utilizing script writing programs like Movie Magic.

Plugging in my content was a piece of cake after using this program. I also, acted out every line in my mind to visualize how each scene would be enacted, along with scenery, props and the kind of actors I am looking for each part.

Instead of extracting dialogue from my book on my computer, I worked with a printed version of my book’s manuscript. I used specific symbols I was comfortable with to identify characters in each scene, props, actions, settings and even things that I know I will need to acquire sponsoring, permission release and  rights to utilize. That could cost in the six figures for every trademark use. Where I can’t obtain those permissions, I will simply have to find substitutions. This is where film dollars are necessary to produce a movie, but nothing is impossible when you plan ahead.

Once I extracted all of the dialogue of my book, I plugged the setting for each scene and character quirks that are necessary for the film to accuarately match the book content. I happen to know how closely readers follow content.

As I perfected my script, I created several treatments utilizing high profile actors or your wish list cast of actors so I could pitch it. I think I may have already done that. Producers and Directors are the busiest people and I am confident that my presentation  of my work left an impression that not only spells dollar signs at the box office even if the title of my movie has to be changed, but has created severe intrigue.

Finally, I put myself into the shoes of great screen writers like Steven Zaillian, Steven Speilberg, Michael Carnahan, Tyler Perry, Quentin Tarantino. I asked myself, would they write a scene like this?

I was also, able to get to this point because I never announced my actions to anyone. I just did it.  When you seek validation before the product is completed you lose steam because no one is ever there to motivate you along the way.

Folks support you when you reach the finish line. And what is so disappointing is that when people make it, they forget who supported them along the way.

I didn’t want to be one of those  fickle folks or people hurting good folks in my life so I took my first steps as a producer, film maker and screenwriter on my own. However, now that my work is completed, I can now share in that success with folks who didn’t have a clue what I was up to, but were there from the start without knowing.

That energy from loyalty believe it or not is all the motivation a screenwriter needs.

Right now I am seeking a cast that is going to catapult this film to the level of success it deserves. Visit my site in progress at www.Heather-Covington.com.

No, I haven’t had time to play around with Disilgold’s macromedia flash, front page and website design expertise as a pretty simple person who believes in providing simple solutions for my base and guests of my self-publishign classes who may not be able to indulge in these features that only leave fans wanting more until you just drop dead trying. I believe in being a work in progress. Someone designed a site for me and it scared the hell out of me. Way too professional. Right now, I am in that I just came in, mug shot pose mode from my camera that provides surveillance of every one that passes the Disilgold residence including cars…but I assure you when Tekila Nika launches you will see the best of me. No doubt. Countdown to Tekila Nika. Get ready to buy it, read it, own it and watch it on your screen and this ain’t fiction. It’s a fact!  If I can do this, so can you. Get started! I’ll see you at the top! And do send me a copy of your screenplay to review because a screenplay needs all the help it can get. There are thousands per year and even if 10 movies are playing at the theater with folk’s favorite actors, they are only going to spend money on 1 or 2. Aim for movie, DVD, and screenplay rights. Definitely register your screenplay and begin to line up film festivals you are intersted in showcasing your movie. Awards mean everything, but of course from reputable firms.
