HEATLIST COUNTDOWN #10- AUTHOR KEVIN POWELL TO RUN FOR CONGRESS SEAT

Kevin Powell is a writer, activist, and lecturer. Disilgold insiders just gave us word that the man who runs a annual star-filled Holiday Affair bringing folks together who give clothes and food to the needy, plus invites DisilgoldSoul Magazine very year may be running for Congress.

But– oh no!!!! He’s running against Mr. Towns for the Democratic nomination for congress. Mr. Towns career may be in jeopardy. Kevin ran against the Brooklyn advocate before, but was consumed by his charitable events for New Orleans victims. After Kevin’s debut on the Real World hosted by MTV, Kevin’s popularity has grown immensely. The only person who came close to defeating Mr. Towns was Charles Baron, but he won. If Kevin wins a seat in Congress, a lot of things will change in Brooklyn. That’s Kevin’s territory. Mr. Towns had better look for another job. I am sure Kevin will gain at least 67% of voters. Don’t say Disilgold Soul Magazine didn’t tell you.

HEATLIST COUNTDOWN #9- TIME IS RUNNING OUT FOR EXHIBITORS SPACE AT THE BOOK EXPO’S AFRICAN AMERICAN PAVILION AND ABOUT THEREZ FLEETWOOD

May 30th- June 1st will celebrate the return of the annual Book Expo which brings out almost every publishing industry professional worldwide. Why? It’s the place to meet all of your media needs in one place.

My goal is to meet every publisher, introduce myself as the Nation’s Top 5 Media Mogul Promoter of African American Literature Online as honored to Disilgold by the Small Press Center alongside the producers of GOODDAY and recruit excellence to Disilgold SOUL Magazine’s YOUnity Reviewers Guild of America being that YGA members want to get in front of other top promoters, media professionals and quality bookstores and buyers. To write a book and not be seen or heard is like writing off your career as an author, and so the Book Expo makes it happen.

I am pleased to announce that I will host the African American Pavilion Awards with my co-host Therez Fleetwood. Visit www.Disilgold.com to see this Halle Berry crop hairdo beauty. She’s the number one bridal dress maker in the world, author of The Afro-centric Bride that Sold over 80,000 copies with A& B Distributors and just an overall cool millionaire who is as humble as can be. WINK!

I need someone strong to help me period because some big names are going to be in the house like the one and only TAVIS SMILEY, yes literary royalty. I have been inspired by Tavis Smiley since Day One. No one should miss the African American Pavilion Awards Reception on Friday and the awards reception that Saturday. All I want is Tavis Smiley’s autograph on my edition of Gumbo for the Soul that I was honored to write the Foreword for and I will be satisfied. I know the lines to get to Tavis will be around the corner. To me, he is one of the most respected leaders of our era.

All happens I think around 2:00pm, so get your 3 day passes from www.bookexpoamerica.com and contact Yvonne at Amberbks@aol.com if you need an exhibitors booth in the African American Pavilion or get a booth from Book Expo for the Italian, Children’s or whatever pavilion. The whole idea of the AA Pavilion was to afford African-American authors affordable exhibitor’s space and make it easier for interested industry folks to find AA authors since it’s no fun when folks walk by you by the tens of thousands. The place gets packed and the AA Pavilion is frequented by the most interested people in media, buyers and book lovers. A perfect home.

The AA Pavilion now has tables available for only $300 and signing time designed  for self-published authors and some very gracious sponsors. The booths at Book Expo can run up to 12,000 with commodities and it’s like putting a down payment on  a Mahtag, okay sorry, an Omni or a Toyota. Just be there. I got my flight and hotel all booked and can’t wait to get up in the skies and fly. I need to fly. It’s symbolic and sentimental for me. Never mind me! Plus, I have ten thousand plus people to meet and greet.

HEATLIST COUNTDOWN #8- WHERE THE F— IS THE MEDIA? SEAN BELL GOT PUMPED WITH 50 BULLETS AND DIDN’T EVEN HAVE A GUN, AND  ALL THREE POLICE WALK

Yet, a racist group of boys calling a father nigger and threatening to kill his son in cold blood in front of his house so the father accidentally pulls the trigger, gets 2 years in jail while a father angrily spews the kind of hate from the 1920′s against blacks with a chilling comment on air that should have resulted in his arrest for threatening the man.

It’s been reported that Reverend Al Sharpton, a great man folks should stick by and not let media bafoon him because he chooses to process his hair so home boy can get up and go and not be subject to weekly haircuts in the barber shop, is happy the protests in Harlem were peaceful. Puh-lease.

Niggers are scared! No disrespect, and don’t jump at me peace makers. I am not the enemy. The word nigger don’t make me or break me or my race, culture or life and no, I would not spend my time, the air I breathe, the steps I walk, the pen I chronicle with and the joy in my heart to acknowledge anyone who called me a nigger in this day and age. I would pop my collar and dismiss the fool as irrelevant and a simple coward who uses words to spew hate, but step out in the street to battle with me fist for fist, and we’ll see who’s a sorry nigger. Am I making myself clear? And I am not saying that the coach of the Rutger’s team further embellished the re-syndication of the word for 15 minutes of fame I knew would wind up on Oprah, and no I am not knocking Oprah, but really… that time and media wasted on a word could have been used to foster self-pride and confidence in youth for a show and help them better deal with curve balls thrown at them when they least expect it. I was working on a job I loved and I heard a woman whisper the word to me under  her breath and I would have been immature to call the race card, sue the establishment for letting it happen to me while this woman lied about a situation over a chair being removed from my office and claiming she didn’t take it even with my initials under the chair, but it happens. Move onward!

However, if cops can walk the beat and shoot anyone down mistaken for having a gun than everyone is a Sean Bell ticking time bomb. This is why I won’t let go of my rap music. I let it go and now I returned to it!

The lyrics subdue my militant anger all black folks possess because for one, all have watched ROOTS! Everyone knows what slavery is, what it feels like and it’s no different from mental slavery where folks feel helpless. If these young kids want to listen to rap music to sooth their time and stay out of trouble or hit the club, it’s better than being out on the street, and my bad… getting accidentally shot by cops. FOUL!

All I have to say is that you didn’t see a riot because it has already happened. I know youth as a peer intervention mediator i the past. These young thugs are dangerous. The Bloods and Crips are real and so are the MS13′s. Those kids get together and form a coalition against police, we are right back to the 60′s. Luckily, a lot of folks are doing well and own the sick mentality, “Better him, than me!” or “Slavery doesn’t exist anymore so not all officers are bad!” Bullshit, BLUE IS BLUE.

The cops involved were black and white, This is not about color. Don’t digress from  the topic because your punk ass can’t stand up to real HEAT in the world. FAKE ASS MEDIA! This is about some officers abusing their power. There needs to be better screening or I am afraid these low  paying hard working cops are all going to be stereotyped as the enemy in these young kids eyes of today. And don ‘t think they don’t have guns. All Harlem boys have guns. A revolution is coming. You can build all of the sky scrapers you want in Harlem, but you  still have the elemental minds of young folks who are brewing with anger. If I am angry, they are furious. They aren’t thinking about marching. These kids are thinking about war! and that’s my commentary, case closed. Much love, respect to Sean Bell’s family and may this fine man rest in peace. He didn’t deserve what happened to him. The world should ban all New York spending to send a direct message. No funds, no salaries for bad cops, but I am a city worker and that might effect my salary so I will just chill for now. Those officers have to live with themselves.

HEATLIST COUNTDOWN #7- BAD MEDIA SPEAKING WHAT THEY DON’T KNOW

Today on my commute back to my office I heard an ignorant media personality say something that wasn’t well researched and OMG, that means Oh My God, it was tacky, embarrassing  to black journalism and I just wanted to puke over and vomit. How could this radio host say something so stupid. I am not even going to shout out names. I am sure this person is kicking their own ass like a donkey. All I have to say is when folks look up to you, don’t take your reign for granted. Quit the f— partying and good life, do some research and know what the hell you are talking about before you open your mouth and that is if you are getting a paycheck from the someone else. As for me, I can say whatever I please because I’m the boss of my own ship, but when you are in journalism, you cannot mispronounce words, misquote common cliches’, people, insult people’s intelligence or denounce anything unless you know the facts, but all is forgiven. i can forgive ignorance because when you don’t know, sometimes you are too ignorant to ask.

HEATLIST COUNTDOWN #6- VANITY FAIR, ANOTHER MAGAZINE, JUST MESSED UP A CELEBRITIES LIFE AND SHE’S ONLY 15- MILEY CYRUS IS THROUGH

Not another celebrity! Little Miley Cyrus at 15 posed nude on Vanity Fair. The magazine that takes celebs to the extreme on their covers. She has a sheet over her chest, but her back is nude and it’s sexually suggestive. She looks like she is strung out and on drugs or like someone sedated her to take that nude pic. In fact, she looks uncomfortable. All in all, she’s a child and she’s naked on the cover of VANITY FAIR. Now let me tell you what this means. Every country loving spiritual fam is ready to pull the plug on Ms. Hannah Montana. Her young followers are growing up with her and now they all want to bare their bodies in the nude. See kids are impressionable. What this also, means is that Disney’s franchise is in jeopardy. They own the Hannah Montana line. Now she was just on Oprah looking like an angel and now she done did the wrong dang thing and will be a disgraced fallen angel forever. She may even be on her way to Brittany status. Here comes the paparazzi. Daddy’s Little Girl looks loose. The media is ready to eat up the starlet. She better be ready because she asked for it!

HEATLIST COUNTDOWN #5- THE BOOK MELODY BY STACY DEANNE ARRIVES JUNE 3rd

Don’t know who Stacy-Deanne is? Well, she’s an Amber Book author who got kidnapped for more book deals by another mainstream publisher. Yeah, folks love ACGI authors. We got the inside scoop on Stacey-Deanne’s new book and guess what? She should contact RAY J because he has a song called MELODY. How convenient. Stacy is bringing that Latin  novel vibe, so we can’t wait for the book to land. Our Latino  audience will love Stacy’s new books. It’s about time someone is bringing the Latin flavor in books.

HIDING IN HIP HOP:

New York, NY –  When Terrance Dean’s highly anticipated memoir is released on May 13, 2008 from Atria/ Simon and Schuster books, there is the strong likelihood that his rightful voice may be lost in the media hype.  A true ‘first’ among firsts, Hiding in Hip Hop: On the Down Low in the Entertainment Industry-From Music To Hollywood is the explosive tale of his tumultuous life as a down low brother in not only the entertainment business, but within the testosterone-driven world of Hip Hop no less!  With that acknowledgement, it is all to possible that his very personal story of tragedy turned triumphant may be missed by journalists, bloggers and gossip columnists alike as they scramble to uncover the who’s who names behind his real life accounts.

Sincere to his unending commitment as an activist, author and motivator, Terrance Dean has launched a personal blog in advance of the novel’s release, “Reclaim Your Voice, Reclaim Your Life, Reclaim Your Power” at www.TerranceDean.blogspot.com. The blog reflects Dean’s own periodic musings as he embarks on this next dimension of his life’s journey.

The author of Reclaim Your Power!  A 30-day Guide to Hope, Healing and Inspiration for Men of Color (Villard Books), originally released  in 2003, Dean has been a long time advocate for self empowerment and healing. He is the founder/creator of Men’s Empowerment, Inc. and co-creator of The Gathering of Men with Adeyemi Bandele, husband of acclaimed teacher and author, Iyanla Vanzant.  He has lectured and conducted workshops at institutions and universities around the country motivating audiences with his special message of hope.  Hiding in Hip Hop is yet another extension of this quest.

“We are divinely gifted and created by God,” offers Dean. “So no matter what, you are complete the way you are!”

Compelling, mind-blowing and jaw dropping, Hiding in Hip Hop will definitely stand apart as one of the year’s most controversial page turners.   Unmasking the deep unspoken secret of a prominent gay sub-culture within not only the entertainment community, but within the confines of Hip Hop, Dean’s latest release is destined to send ripples throughout not only the Black and gay community, but the entertainment world at large.  In an industry that thrives on power, misogyny and machismo, Dean reveals homosexuality as a stark reality at nearly every level of Hip Hop.

However his memoir is also a genuine sojourn of a young man searching for self, love, and sexual identity in the most homophobic places: family,  community, church and Hip Hop.  Struggling to find a place for himself in a homophobic culture, Dean’s compelling story is one of hope, love, and in spite of everything, coming to terms with one’s self and being a catalyst for change and empowerment in the game of Hip Hop.

To meet Terrance Dean in advance of Hiding in Hip Hop go to www.TerranceDean.blogspot.com  now, and get to know the man behind the soon-to-be bestseller even better.

Bad Boy Recording Group DAY 26, Name should be Day 365 because this album is going to last all year long!

Smooth, fresh, hypnotic, expertly written, arranged and produced, DAY 26 is like a breath of fresh air that arrived from nowhere. Every single on the soundtrack is a radio hit maker, soild and easy to listen to over and over again from I’m the Reason and Got Me Goin to In My Bed, Silly Love and Come With Me. Co Star is resoundingly a bonafide hit and Come In My Door’s Open is a love ballad you’ll be playing over and over again in your cd player if you haven’t thrown it away yet to just download songs. DAY 26 brings the return of buying artist cd’s back with the help of the group’s appearance on Making the Band hosted by Sean Combs. It is obvious that the show may have lent to the artist’s immediate attraction, but even so, the band members all have unique sound vocals that blend and harmanize with more depth than Take Four and even R& B crooner and Soul Balladeer groups like Jodeci whom  the groups is heavily favored by, but make no mistake about it, DAY 26 has its own sound and don’t even borrow any vocal arrangements from Jodeci at all. They just give you straight harmony without any carrying on or hype and perhaps why the group may go mainstream.  More hits you’ll hear delightfully creep up with spins on the radio are Can’t Fight the Feeling, Since You’ve Been Gone and if It Wasn’t For You. The ladies will enjoy What It Feels Like and Are We In This Together. What I particularly liked is that the boys can sing in DAY 26, every one of them. There are no fakes or sitting ducks in this group. They also, have great style and presence. The boy band group is back in 2008 and made in heaven because to match these band members like this is once in a lifetime.

Naomi Campbell and MLK correlation- You decide

World renown model, Naomi Campbell was arrested in London Airport after falling into a tantrum upon being notified that one of her expensive luggages was missing. Oh poor, rich girl! Clearly in a state of shock and like a possessive freak who thinks that her luggage is not prone to get lost like normal folks and given time may be found, she reportedly went into a rage demanding that someone find her luggage.

She was so disruptive, staff at the London airport declared her unfit for travelling and may have feared her prolonged outbursts may create an unwanted scene on the plane. With all of the security measures airports have to take against possible terrorists, her situation was minute, and making a scene just wasn’t worth getting arrested. It was clear that she was very nasty and crazed because real cops had to be called upon. However, some news is speculating that the cops abused her because she was a celebrity.

This is when she went into a relapse of her short fun-filled days of community service cleaning up a run down vacant lot for throwing a phone at her maid and to fulfill her sentence in savvy fashionable gear. Her career as a top model was actually revived with multiple headline articles in the media after she tarnished herself by acting snooty to Tyra Banks on her own show. Tyra admitted Naomi seemed competive and mean. It doesn’t help that she’s been seen spotted at the most glitzy clubs like a bonafide party girl. Naomi’s fits are as inclined as rapper Foxy Brown and sure to be a subject for some BET show on RAGING DIVAS. Don’t say I didn’t tell you.

Naomi’s fans may find little sympathy for the enraged model who stole a few pages from major media this week that should have been allocated to the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, who was gunned down on this day, but if no one acknowledges the severe treatment of a black model over seas in the U.S., than many may be singled out and made an example of with celebrity profiling. The model not only screamed and distracted security over a bag, but she has been reported kicking and spitting on the police like a foolish and spoiled rotten kid. It’s really difficult to side with a woman in rage.

Her fine would have been better off seeking anger management classes and doing some commercials on world safety shared among the nations on avoiding distracting security personnel from their real job and that’ s keeping the skies safe. Naomi gets a big “Hillary Shame on YOU” for causing a scene. Next time, when anything is lost, she should handle it in court or think of it as a calling.

Sometimes things happen in life to test your resilience on the second go round. It is clear that Naomi did not pass this test, but my heart goes out to her because any one would freak out in a foreign country. However, when they toss you in jail, they throw away the key. She is very lucky to just have been handcuffed and kicked out of the airport. She needs to cool down and like Bill Clinton says, “Chill out!” That’s about the only thing he’s said worthwhile and may I add Senator Cains apology for denying a law to enact a holiday on behalf of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. birthday in January.

The holiday goes a long way in uniting people of all colors and I believe was angel sent since so many business owners admit it was on Dr. Martin Luther Kings Birthday that many wrote their business proposals. MLK is an inspiration and everytime I see a black person in the news getting arrested and going out of control, I can’t help but to think of how these folks are disrespecting MLK’s dream by acting a fool. The role models are dwindling down. All the kids know is Oprah, Dr. Maya Angelou and now Obama as far as being scandal free.

Naomi keeps emabarrasing herself and needs to be grateful for her blessings. I have to admit, no one can walk the catwalk like Naomi and she symbolizes black beauty and features 100%. Her style, attitude and modeling experience has made her an international sensation. She can be forigven this time because she was on her way to a funeral, but anything could have happened to her with cops use of excessive force which is always justified. No one wants to see Naomi ever get into trouble like this again so for the entire world seething with anger toward Naoimi, be a better person and give the diva on the count od ten an e-group hug. Now chill out Naomi and save the rage for runway.
