Founded in 2001 by Yale-graduate Sidra Bell, this Harlem-based contemporary dance troupe presents a unique blend of dance and live music. In merely seven years, Ms. Bell, known for her fluid yet dramatic movements, has already received numerous awards for her achievements in choreography including the prestigious Bessie Schönberg Choreographers Residency at The Yard; the “Patricia Kerr Ross Award.” and a Tribeca Performing Arts Center Artist-in-Residency. SBDNY has performed at the Alvin Ailey Citigroup Theater, Jacob’s Pillow, and Joyce SoHo Presents.

The SLJ, led by choreographer and activist Zane Booker, is a socially-conscious multimedia dance theatre collective dedicated to educating and informing the masses about tolerance, diversity, and the still critical AIDS epidemic. Because their work is powerful, spirit-driven, and relevant, the SLJ, based in Philadelphia, has been a regular invitee at festivals that highlight the fight against social injustice. After touring the U.S. and abroad with the Philadelphia Dance Company, the Netherlands Dance Theater, and Mikhail Baryshnikov’s White Oak Dance Project, Mr. Booker brings a broad global perspective to his classical yet contemporary work. Mr. Booker, who last year was featured as one of “25 to Watch” in Dance Magazine, appeared in the 2007 CityParks Dance festival as a guest artist with Subtle Changes.
