Did Bernie Mack Have to Die at Age 50? Exclusive article by Heather Covington

Bernie Mac (Bernard Jeffrey McCollough) was born on October 5, 1957  in Chicago, Illinois during a tumultuous time period in America’s history when segregation was in full effect in the rural south and north. On August 9, 2008, Bernie Mac dies at age 50 due to pneumonia complications. Survived by his daughter Je’Niece (Age 27), he leaves behind a legacy as one of the most revered comedians of our time gaining 2 Golden Globe Nominations and over 28 more award nominations and 11 wins. He is best known by children around America for his stellar performance on the tv sitcom, The Bernie Mac Show which he produced and has made numerous appearances on top shows like Jimmy Kimmel Live, Late Night With Conan O’Brien, Tavis Smiley, Entertainment Tonight and even episodes of Saturday Night Live.  His rise to stardom and claim to fame as a comedian began with Def Comedy Jam. Upon making an appearance on the Oprah Show he mentions how as a child he was always called dirty because of his dark complexion by racist white people at the time, and so he always gave careful attention to his appearance, personal hygiene and personal grooming which Oprah commented on. A beloved personality, his reign as a comedian and true King of Comedy will be missed. He had several movies and tv shows awaiting in post production like Old Dogs (2009), Soul Men ( 2008), Starting Under (2008) and Welcome to the Family( 2008). It is unclear if the shows will air. A young man at 50, black men and men in general are realizing  the importance of getting an annual flu shot for a temporal, but deadly disease that often leads to pneumonia and heart failure among black performing male artists in particular whose bodies are strong enough to fight the disease that over powers undetected heart disease, coronary heart blockage and failing lungs, all critical organs toward fighting pneumonia. Bernie’s death may be a wake up call to all Black Men in America on how important it is to take care of one’s health. The world will let you work, work, work until you drop dead. Bernie didn’t have to die.  Pneumonia doesn’t kill a man at age 50. I am sure when toxicology reports arrive, his death will be blamed with stress-related illness. The comedy world has suffered a huge lost. www.disilgold.com
