“Fashion Rocks somehow gathered 13 of the most talented singers to perform a song produced by LA Reid and Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds called Just Stand Up.

Performers in the line up included  Keyshia Cole, Leona Lewis. Fergie, Ciara, Mariah Carey, Beyonce, Mary J Blige, Rihanna, Carrie Underwood, Miley Cyrus, Ashanti, Natasha Bedingfield and Nicole Scherzinger at Conde Nast Media Group’s Fifth Annual Fashion Rocks at Radio City Music Hall on September 5, 2008 in New York City.

The song was created to help women and men  obtain preventative testing via breast and prostrate exams. While the perfomances were entertaining and stimulated interest among tv watchers with Beyonce’ evoking laughter with an Etta James look-a-like wig  which was bizarre and distracted from the effectiveness of the song accompanied by very weak vocals among all of the ladies  surprisingly and except for Keyshia Cole, the most effective part of the show was when actors like Halle Berry and Forest Whitaker stepped into the shoes of Cancer victims and survivors so America could not only empathize with the plight, but make a donation to the cause. 1 out of 6 men will be diagnosed with prostrate cancer. I noticed Shemar Moore on the phone lines, but he would have been more effective in reaching Black and Latino men known to avoid the prostrate test than the laughable skit from a Friend’s sitcom star actor pulling down his pants to evoke laughter and embarrassment.

Other than a well-planned event that delivered with a unified message, I would like to see each of the celebrity singers share their personal stories upon acquiring a breast exam. I know I endured the test way earlier than recommended and if I can help save one life by sharing my experience than it’s worth it!

Over all, a breast examination requires lifting one side of your arm at a time and feeling around the breast to feel for unusual lumps among breast tissue and natural contours that come with natural breasts. Testing daily won’t help you notice subtle changes as examining your breasts on a weekly basis where lumps are more noticeable! If you detect a lump, you should acquire a breast examination. Your doctor will recommend you for a mammagraphy and ultrasound, but both are susceptible to human error and why it is critical for you to follow-up.

Five of the main causes of breast cancer are the mammography test itself due to radiation exposure, build up of estrogen or hormones and why you should pump your ducts daily by lifting your arm and squeezing yoru underarms to stimulate the lymphatic system and of course, tight bras are a culprit because they stop circulation. There is also, speculation that anti-perspirant deoderants block natural expiration and can cause build up of toxins. A lack of exercise, ample rest with stress can also induce bodily toxins and finally improper nutrition. Some people cook all of their food and kill off the enzymes and nutrients in veggies that your body needs to fight cancer building toxins.

Cancer is not a  disease that should be brushed off as other people’s diesease. Anyone can acquire it and  should be taken seriously. Prevention doesn’t begin or end with a concert. Encourage a friend or family member to take care of themselves least you keep a friend and family member around much longer. The steps you take to live are worth it because when you are gone, you are gone! Stop everything and do it for you!
