Tonight, our founder “The Literary Diva” got blasted by an avid reader of Disilgold.com as in told off. In fact,we tracked her down since she’s on vacation and working on her spring tour with a line up of events of which some have gone public on Disilgold.com. She even made us take down her photo and books from the site because she wants to maintain that she is able to connect with her readers one-to-one and doesn’t want the Disilgold Community to think she is there and she is not this week. We respected her wishes, but had to IM Heather Covington on her new Blackberry she got to free up her other cell phone for her friends only after getting told off by several of her buddies as well who have had enough of the Literary Divas disappearances every other week for her writing excursions. She needed time to design the officialYGA Multi-Industry Award 2009 and just very focused more than ever. After all, we’re just here for the publishing division helping out with the magazine which she can maintain on her own if she wishes. We’re not saying she is a perfectionist, but take a look at the site this week. We had to stay at the office until 3am this past weekend at her demand to support her interview guests to the top. She thinks the world of her Disilgold.com guests and this email prompted her to respond to a portion of the email that must have struck a nerve, but she still never mentioned one thing about Etta.
Heather Covington responded, ‘”Yes, I have been hurt in this industry. There are always new businesses to arrive who forget the original Mother of the Neo-Soul Literary Renaissance with a 100 page color print magazine who gracefully stepped away from other publications claiming this throne and moved online. Then an award show claiming to be the first of its kind came along to claim that it was the first type of award show of its kind when in fact, Disilgold’s award show was the first of its kind. She’s had simple organizations like the Disilgold Literary Network Association lifted as well despite that her entity is published in a novel since 2003. How would three out of four words of a business be so close to another she questions and just smiles and keeps working.
If you think that is crazy, try Heather Covington’s YOUnity Reviewers Guild of America Awards being lifted in its entirety and the word YOUnity substituted with the word Black. Her most disheartening experience was forming the original Literary Legends Ball and we’ll just stop right there before we get to those entities that infringed on her trademarks like, Literary Divas. There is just no end to thieves as we have pointed out to Heather Covington !
All of this establishes itself as Heather builds her publishing division. She isn’t petty, but we were shocked to record her first video diaries due for release on www.LiteraryDiva.com. She actually named the names of thieves and is flinging pending legal counsel papers in the air and just gone Literary Diva mad which we love because if you can’t beat these folks, you might as well join them and not hold back. We still don’t know if the taping was just a joke or if she is going to let it fly, but we do know in all humbleness, yes, the Literary Diva has been hurt even though she doesn’t show it. It’s not so much the crossing of ideas which happens in any industry, but that some of these folks have met Heather and just intentional thieves.
Any how, here was the response to the ETTA JAMES APOLOGY NOT ACCEPTED that conjured a partial response from Heather Covington. We are sure, she’ll be back to reflect on Etta James herself whom her problem was stealingthe shine of an innocent singer who was asked to sing her version of the song not owned by Etta James in a movie. Too much of that is going says our founder who believes in mentors to younger artists acting like mentors and not like a Hollywood brat who have missed their calliing or had their calling and won’t let anyone else in the door! Comments from a respected figure like Eta James could destroy an artist. First Aretha Franklinshouted Beyonce down for a minor mistake that could have been corrected by an apology request via a pr rep, but it’s the way folks carry out their anger these days with no tact that the Literary Diva isn’t siding with.

I must say, after reading the above, that I had heard that Etta James was VERY upset when hearing that Beyonce’ was going to be singing her signature song at the Inauguration. I would be remiss if I did not stick up for ETTA JAMES!! Is that a surprise to you? It should’nt be!
Etta James WAS, and IS the “MAKER” of that song and still being alive and kickin’, don’t you think, at all, that it was incumbent upon even Michelle Obama to have the “ORIGINAL” artist come to sing “AT LAST?!” In my humble opinion…..I DO!!!! I’m sorry, but, had Etta James not been with us any longer, I could certainly understand. However……Etta is MORE than “with us” and still sounds MAGNIFICENT singing her song!!! Of course, she does not “own” the song….however….ETTA is the one who made it FAMOUS to begin with and it would have been extremely “CLASSY and FAIR” to ask Ms James if SHE would come and do the song for the Inauguration……SORRY OUT THERE!!! That is how “I” feel!!!
Look…..even though I was born in the 50’s, I still love the “old” songs. That song, in particular is SUPER and always was…..because of ONE person……ETTA JAMES!!!!
I think that the least the Obama’s could do, now, after hurting Etta’s feelings….which is what REALLY happened, would be to INVITE HER TO THE WHITEHOUSE to give a SPECIAL PERFORMANCE!!! This is MY opinion, and MY opinion alone. What’s FAIR is FAIR and although she does NOT “own” the song….SHE is the one who should have sung it at the Inauguration…..hands down!!! Did anyone stand in for Aretha Franklin to sing at the Inauguration that day? If so, I did not see them!!! It was Aretha, herself, who was there singing! Right?
So….before you go and throw Etta James “under the bus,” I would think long and hard about a woman who is and always has been such a tremendous singer and talent and who has a heck of a lot more class than you realize, but, like ALL of us…..was HURT!!! Have YOU not ever been HURT in YOUR life? I think so! So…..try to understand HER side of the story and realize that this was an African-American becoming President, for the very first time, and it would have been such a PLEASURE and HONOR to have the “original” artist sing, rather than a “stand-in!” Even though I truly like Beyonce’, I believe even Beyonce’ COULD have suggested that herself!!! Obviously, she knew Etta James was still singing and I believe that THAT would have been the “CLASSY” thing to do!!!
Thankyou, and, I must say…..Ms James…..You did a HELL of a job singing “your song” on “Dancing with the Stars” this evening!!! You were MAGNIFICENT!!!! You also LOOK GREAT!!! Keep up the great work and know that MANY out here(both WHITE(like myself) and African-American) love you!!!
