Disilgold SOUL Magazine: We Run This Town by Jay Z featuring Rihanna & Kanye West

Reviewed by Heather Covington

I was surfing my networks and came across this sound byte from 50 Cent on Reverbnation featuring Jay Z, Rihanna and Kanye West on a cut called, We Run this Town. Being that this is the first song I have heard since Rihanna’s incident with Chris Brown and all the controversy with Jay Z and Kanye West sounding off on the issue of Chris taking blows at the Godiva of Hip Pop Hop, it is clear and evident that this song, We Run this Town is one of those Bonnie & Clyde, Sr. and Clyde Jr. comraderie anthems telling haters to kiss where the sun don’t shine.

The vibe drums on the ears, stays consistent and offers Jay Z supremacy skills on the mic with Kanye West  who gives off classic whiplash, while Rihanna Repeat Offender subdued drawl with no highs or lows just bails out what works and they’re off to number one. Call it a sneaky litle comeback that distances itself from the controversy and cleverly focuses on a pact made in the music hood, if sticking together is a matter of survival for these  music artists quickly feeling the heat from newcomers like Keri Hilson, Ryan Leslie and Drake then let the battle begin.

I love a showdown and  triotic success for the best in the music biz.

I guess 50 Cent, Ciara and Amerie will form their pact and Monica Ke Don’t use my terminology folks. I make up words like  my boy Jesse Jackson. I predict that Keyshia Cole and Jeremih will make a triage gangster hit and then next comes, Ginuwine, Sole and Nelly. If I am starting trouble than throw in Maxwell, Brian McKnight and Mariah Carey. It’s about time that the HIPHOPTOWN era return. Motown ended with Marvin Gaye  in my opinion and Hip Pop Hop resurges with the end of the Michael  Jackson era. But you know who is going to take over, that Dream, Christina Milian and T-Pain. Don’t say I didn’t tell you.

AUTHOR DENISE TURNEY SHARES THE POIGNANT STORY OF A ORPHAN GIRL FROM AFRICA WHO GOES ON TO LEAD A NATION –

NATIONAL INDIE EXCELLENCE BOOK AWARD FINALIST

Philadelphia, PA — Denise Turney’s new book Long Walk Up tells the story of a remarkable young girl from East Africa who is destined to be a leader of nations. Long Walk Up is a significant contribution to art and community. This story examines the life of a child who has been pushed into the street alone when her mother dies from malaria. The child, a girl named Mulukan, offers us an honest look at tragedy and unforeseen events, heart tugging coincidences that become the threads in the fabric of the human landscape. Mulukan’s personal story strikes a perfect balance between resistance and triumph. This child’s remarkable life searches readers’ hearts and calls them to ascension in their own personal lives.

One reviewer, Yaba Blay, of Temple University’s Department of African American Studies, has this to say about Turney’s new release, “Long Walk Up breathes life into the resiliency of the African spirit. Through Turney, Mulukan easily leaves the pages and enters our hearts. You too will be encouraged to take the Long Walk Up.” Another reviewer, Ron Kavanaugh of Mosaicbooks.com, notes that, “Starting with her first book, Portia, and continuing with her latest effort, Long Walk Up, Denise Turney’s literary expressiveness and dedication to the written word is evident. Long Walk Up is sure to be a bestseller.”

Chris Brown Apologizes to Rihanna and his fans on TMZ.com and says he wants to be a role model, but is he sincere?

I have to give props to Chris Brown for his sincere apology that could not have come at a better time. The music world has  been in stand still because people have been waiting to see the aftermath of the court decision. Some people feel Chris Brown got off easy and copped a plea for no jail time in exchange for community service. Others say that the time does not fit the crime based on the circumstances that now reveal both parties physically attacked one another. He will need to commit himself to over 1000 hours of community service an wash fire engines, pull weeds and dump trash. According to the video on TMZ.com he is seeing a minister and  seekimg counseling. Do you feel he got off or do you feel Chris Brown deserves another chance?  All comments must be approved so please give us a chance to update.

ASK HEATHER: Is Jeremih the Next Prince of R& B or One Hit Wonder?

jeremih

Jeremih is the newest Hip Hop and R&B soul artist to arrive from Def Jam with hypnotic soul ballads mixed with techno-romantic ballads like “That Body” and “Birthday Sex” which  will undoubtedly hook music listeners ears with  an explict soul groove and catchy, but risque lyrics sure to gain mass appeal.  This guy would have been Chris Bown’s competition, but has taken off in a direction all his own. In fact, Jeremih has taken over, but can this freshman composer, pianist. lyricsist and performer bail out a sophmore album to claim his reign as the new Prince of R&B? Thus far, almost every cut on the album reminds you of something that has already been done. “Birthday Sex,”  the crave song of the summer is undoubtedly a remake of “Bed” by Jay Holiday with new lyrics.

ASK HEATHER: Why did Richard Jefferson really call off his wedding to Ni’Cole Nichols 2 Hours before the ceremony?

richard_jefferson

by Heather Covington “The Literary Heat”

www.disilgold.com

Richard Jefferson, a former  member of the New Jersey Nets before getting traded in June to the St. Antonio Spurs, was supposed to get married to Ni’cole Nichols, but  decided to break up with his fiancee’ before the weekend festivities. Not only were the guests not informed of the cancellation until 2 hours before the big moment , but neither was his fiancee’ confirmed of the break up. Maybe she thought he was just getting cold feet and might change his mind.

In fact, she found out via an email and only until all was confirmed and finalized, did Ni’Cole  take it upon herself to call friends, family and guests. His friends who also, felt stood up were compensated with an American Express card and took full advantage by continuing the day’s festivities with food and wine.  Jefferson may have given  Ni’ Cole $100,000 to get lost.  Ni’Cole decided to utilize the hotel which was supposed to be their honey moon pad and LIVE UP THE LIFE for a few more moments.

ASK HEATHER: How do I become an Essence Bestseller?

heather-essence-promo

by Heather Covington “The Literary Diva”

www.Literarydiva.com

To become an Essence bestseller, you need to set up signings in Essence Reporting stores and sell out the most books in each store, but just so  that you know, mainstream published authors have an advantage because they simply have more books on shelves. If you are a self-published author, be sure to have a large print run to compete edgewise. Good luck.  Hope this helps. P.S. Here are the current Essence Reporting Stores.

grace_garland

Check out this spotlight article on Grace Garland from The Examiner by Carole Troll.

There is always an air of sheer delight when you walk into a club where Grace Garland is performing. No matter the venue, you can rest assured that you will get a show! I have followed her from cabaret settings, to release parties to her regular gigs. For the past few months however, the “Queen” has branched out and taken her show on the road.

Mind you, when a person goes “on the road,” that could mean anything from touring the state, to doing a circuit that connects you with the cream of the crop in jazz talent. She is used to doing it all. This time however, her highness has taken off to Russia where the crowds are eager and she is all too ready to please. And please she does, in a big way. One only needs to see the looks on the faces of the fans that have come to know her presence, and her style. The “Queen” still calls New York her home, so you don’t need a trunk and a visa to bask in the Garland glow.

Disilgold.com-Is La Toya Jackson Right for Saying Michael Jackson was Murdered? Story by Heather Covington- The Literary Heat

letoya-jackson5

by Heather Covington

“The Literary Heat”

www.Disilgold.com

According to CBS News, Letoya Jackson reports that Michael Jackson was murdered.  Letoya, 56  is one of three daughters of the Jackson family along with Rebe and Janet who both had  more successful mainstream music careers than their sister Letoya, so you may not remember her as a singer. However, Letoya spoke up many years ago about Joe Jackson’s severe disciplinary measures. It appears that  Joe Jackson  kept his entire family focused on their singing career from avoiding relationships, trusting outside family members and behaving with an acceptable code of ethics in public.

Rise of the Anikim: Tablets of Destiny by Adin Kachisi

by Heather Covington

www.disilgold.com

A biorhythm of chained events proceeding the  World Trade Center bombings opens the gateways to an underworld  pinnacled by the demolition of the center of a ring of fountains.  Apparently designed upon construction of the  Twin Towers to mimic the ancient Kabba on the Grand Mosque of Mecca, Richard Mingler, an excavating  construction site executive by day  and cloaked bearer of a dark world by night, believes he is a messenger of a secret society and wastes no time pouring sacred blood onto the crushed rings.

Call it a fluke or humanities worst nightmare, the concrete below the rings opens up  to Richard, who is ready to enact the duties of the ancient  Illiminati Order  of Kingu, but what comes out is a ferocious best named Zamariel asking for  mysterious keys.  Richard fails to respond and gets his heart ripped out as the beast flees leaving him from dead.

GONE TOO SOON- Poetical Tribute to Michael Jackson 1958-2009 by Heather Covington-July 7th during Memorial Service

Old pic, but my new poem dedicated to the one and only. On my 4th draft. Perfecting… perfecting…Be right back. I have to do this on this day. Frustrated with my rusty poetry skills. Haven’t written a poem in 5 days. Must never skip a day. Got to revive this poet in me for Michael and oh my God, Maya Angelou, the lady who cried on my shoulder and  I cried on hers and I don’ t even know why were crying. It’s a long story. Come on Heather, finish this poem… yeah, yeah…I have an ego  and what? A perfectionist, but I do need to get my hair did and represent so replacing the pic sometime this summer to historically be doecumented  with  this poem. Peace. Enjoy.

Michael Jackson Memorial Service will begin around 12:00 at the Staples Center in California and tens of thousands of people are in route, but only limited tickets were made available online at the Staples Center site which crashed in hours with over 500 million hits. Some folks only got tickets for keepsakes and know they are not even atending. Others are out there selling scalped tickets for $750 and up or got t-shirts made up to capture the American Dream. I am on my phone and lap top standing across the street from H&M awaiting for some music to begin in Michael Jackson’s honor and then I am heading down to the Adam Clayton Powell building to watch thr jumbo tron screening of Michael Jackson’s motorcade procession. The folks in Harlem know how to pay tribute to folks and why so many of the stars live here. When the late Nina Simone died years ago,  everyone from Pattie and Maya Angelou and Sonia Sanchez came out.  I don’t like funerals because usually when one person dies, more deaths follow in threes.

I remember losing 3  good friends of mine, Gail Young, Gloria Wright and a mentor whom I spent hours on the phone to perserve their legacy in a historical directory for an organization I cannot mention here because that is the kind of person I am when I lose someone close to me.  People show their homage in different ways.  I pay tribute with my writing. My concern with Michael Jackson’s death had been probing me for some time. I just don’t understand where were all of these loyal fans when Michael was being run through the mill as a child molester and pedaphile.

Disilgold.com Review of BET AWARDS 2009- THE BEST HIGHLIGHTS OF THE SHOW

june-26-michael-80

by www.Disilgold.com

Lights! Camera! Action! The BET AWARDS 2009 worked its magic in honor of Michael Jackson within 4 days and turned out the grab the most award show viewers on tv in history. I recapped the events without bias to preserve the history of the show in this moment in time millions of viewers will never forget. Michael Jackson… REST IN PEACE KING!

All members  of New Edition, Jonny, Mike, Ronnie,  Ralph, Johnny  and Bobbie performed their rendition of The Jackson 5’s “I  Want You Back.” It was enlightening to see all members back together for a solid performance that had the same magic, artistry and talent as the day this group began their music careers.  It took me a while to realize that it was indeed, New Edition.  Their performance was followed by professional commentary by the one and only, MC Lyte, a pioneering rap superstar in her own right.

Jamie Foxx, host of the BET AWARDS 2009, appeared in his Michael Jackson outfit  which set off the show with a cheerful overtone and vowed to moonwalk across the stage in tribute to “The King of Pop.”  The actor, singer, rapper and multi-talented superstar  successfully  did his dance version of Michael Jackson’s Beat It complete with precise choreography. How intelligent and witty to have the crowd serenade the words of Michael’s songs.  Tonight was certainly a celebration and I loved every moment.

In 1958, an explosive bundle of joy was born unto the world  from Catherine and Joseph Jackson, who  would become the “World’s Greatest Entertainer of All Time” for his compassion, global humanitarian spirit and everlasting universal influence on the  music and entertainment  industry world; and  not seen since the era of the Beatles and Elvis Presley. His name…Michael Jackson. His home… Gary, Indiana. His passion…singing and dancing.  His legacy, “One in a million.”

Born into entertainment as a leading member of The Jackson 5, like well admired artists gone to soon like Aaliyah, Lisa Left Eye Lopez,  Tupac  Shakur, Biggie Smalls, James Brown, Luther Vandross  and Marvin Gaye to name a few pioneers, his sudden passing brought on an ocean of tears wide enough to reach from coast-to-coast.
