LITERARYDISH.COM- JUST GIVE MO’NIQUE THE OSCAR- THE PRECIOUS INTERVIEW

Mo’Nique

The “Precious” Interview

with Kam Williams

Mo’Nique Imes was born on December 11, 1967 in Baltimore which is where she started her showbiz career as a stand-up comedienne on a dare a couple of decades ago. From there, she gained visibility and immense popularity with performances on “Showtime at the Apollo,” HBO’s “Def Comedy Jam,” “Apollo Comedy Hour” HBO’s “Snaps,” BET’s “Comic View,” The Montreal Comedy Festival and Uptown Comedy Club.

Her big break arrived in 1999 when she landed a starring role on the television series, “The Parkers.” During the show’s five-year run, Mo’Nique earned numerous awards, including four NCAAP Image Awards as the Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series. Her film credits include Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins, Two Can Play That Game, Hair Show, Three Strikes, Baby Boy, Beerfest, Phat Girlz, Soul Plane, Irish Jam, Domino and Shadowboxer.

As a voluptuous role model for Rubenesque females Mo-Nique wrote the best-selling book “Skinny Women Are Evil,” as well as an equally-funny follow-up entitled “Skinny Cooks Can’t Be Trusted.” She also created, produced and emceed “Mo’Nique’s F.A.T. Chance,” America’s first, full-figured, reality beauty pageant. Struck by the skyrocketing number of women behind bars, she brought her act to a prison to tape a comedy special called “I Coulda Been Your Cellmate” which aired on TV before later being released on DVD. Then, she delved further into the issue as the host of “Mo’Nique: Behind Bars” for the Oxygen television network.

Here, she talks about “The Mo’Nique Show,” her new late-night talk show on BET, and about her Oscar-worthy performance in Precious, Lee Daniels’ eagerly-anticipated screen adaptation of Sapphire’s novel, “Push.”

Kam Williams: Hi Mo’Nique, thanks so much for the time.

Mo’Nique: Hey Kam! Thank you, baby!

KW: Congratulations on the new TV show.

VIDEO DISH: Who Will Win the BET Awards for Best Hip Hop Awards on October 27th- UPDATE- Disilgold.com Predicts JAY Z as winner! Photos Unleashing!

2009 proved to be one of the most exciting HIP HOP years with a variety of artists from Kid Kudi, Drake and Jay Z to Lil Wayne, Eminem, 50 Cent and Kanye West. Renown media figures have begun to select their favorites and so I decided to join in on the discussion via the Disilgold.com Prediction HEATLIST .

In my opinion any top lyricist should 1. sell out stadiums 2. have made Twitter trending topic lists 3. had extensive campaigning via a variety of media outlets 4. be representative of a role model in HIP HOP 5. appeared on the Oprah Show 6. a favorite at Disilgold.com 7. Married to Beyonce 8. Not afraid to return to one’s hood and walk freely without obvious bodyguards and represent the people 9. Bust out a hip hop anthem for New York, the birth place of true-hip hop. Much respect to all lyricists. Just messing with y’all.

I kind of like them all, but I a giving props to JAY Z this year. He did the darn thing with BLUEPRINT III. A genius. Next up, Lil Waye, but his songs are trendy for the moment and I’m already looking out for the next one. The hype around him has got to stop. Too much baby mama drama. Not easy to concentrate on his lyrics without missing a day of hype. Regardless, not bad at all. A great way to sell millions, but I am into tracks with longevity. It’s like MIMS song HI HATERS. DID, DONE AND DISMISSED!

3rd up is of course, Eminem. The boy is bad and no, I am not going to add for a white boy. He’s got mad skills black or white. 4th up I would have to say Drake because he needs to work on his presentation. Being a lyricist and performer go hand-in-hand. His presentation doesn’t reflect the real him I know is there. Drake is a supastar and plays himself down for what? The hand shaking and skipping on stage is not my cup of tea! Fix that asap! Go harder Drake. You are a bona-fide HIP HOPPER with the big boys! Don’t pretend to be likeable to be accepted. You know you want to rip the mike and crush MC’s. Put on the leather, shades, come out on stage with the bike, tats, cut up the colegiate clothes on stage and diss everyone. You can do it Drake. Take over. Chuckles.

5th I would have to say 50 Cent because it is obvious he is into other ventures this year and not 100% into the music. I can tell. Have you read his current MEGA BESTSELLER, THE 50 TH LAW.Once you go literary it’s hard to go back hard on the mic. Everyone now knows you are intelligent and not gangster at all. Just thought I would add that and I don’t believe for a minute 50 Cent is a bad boy. I see business man. To be Hip Hop you have to go hard. Look at him all lovey dovey with my Kelly Rowland lately. Shame on 50 Cent. He’s slipping. His rough image that made him is turning into a nice guy! He’s been giving away money to his old neighborhood. Hip Hop stars are supposed to be selfish, mean, rude and diss the ladies. Now he wants the ladies to have a baby by him and become a millionaire. This is a straight up diss toward LIL WAYNE and sarcasm at its finest. He could win on this song alone. Chuckles.

Last, I would have to give props to Kanye for consistency. Folks may not like him this year only, but he’ll be back, STRONGER, BETTER AND WISER. He broke out of that Lady Gaga tour because money ain’t everything and he should be headlining his own tour. Good thing he only got 50 hours of community service for getting at the paparazzi. That’s why the tickets didn’t sell for the FAME KILLS CONCERT TOUR. If Kanye headlined his own tour it would sell out! It’s a shame he has to pull antics to ensure he’s in the game. It’s not easy being on the HIP HOP list. Audiences are fickle, but somewhere on earth I think there are millions who backlashed against the successful artist and he knew this would happen so he backlashed on himself. Next in line, people will support him. I should write a book on this code of success! Yes, if you destroy yourself you can rise back to the top. Kanye is not done. The man may be smarter than all of us! He’ll be back! 50 hours of community service will make you mad enough to write some cutting edge songs. Someone made me mad in the literary game so I wrote one, too! Loading any minute!

Michael Jackson THIS IS IT Movie is Now Sold Out Everywhere!

According to several resources, the movie, THIS IS IT is such a perfect tribute to Michael Jackson complete with body doubles and mostly rehearsal material, you have to wonder if this movie has been in the making all along. Micheal just passed on June 25th, 2009! Now a prior 30 million dollar lawsuit for Michael’s inability to carry on his tour dates due to premature death has risen to 300 million, so if this movie profits, a greedy person is waiting to not only get his share, but possibly go after Michael’s estate honored to his mother, Catherine. Let’s hope this movie does well enough for all of the folks awaiting a handout to go away and let Michael’s estate, his last dignity, remain a leagacy.

First Lady Michelle Obama Shows a Little Envy Over President Barack Obama Dancing with Thalia

President Barack Obama was serenaded by the world’s hottest Latina artist, Thalia, at a function. All was going well as President Barack Obama put on his classic grin and even Michelle chimed in to the words of one her popular songs, but then all hell broke loose when Thalia decided to motion President Barack Obama to dance and well, it wouldn’t have been a good gesture to deny dancing with Thalia. After all, President Barack Obama has to be hospitable since the event was planned at the White House.

Now eventhough Michelle Obama never said a word or showed a sign of presidential jealousy, when President Barack Obama sat down she kept clapping on to the beat of Thalia’s song as she continued to perform and totally ignored B.O. It was kind of funny because www.TMZ.com caught the whole expressionless glance from M.O. What can I say Michelle is human and it what is the wife of America’s president to do, be happy that he rman is dancing with a hot music artist.

Personally, there is nothing wrong with your man dancing with a hot chick on the dance floor as long as he is coming back over to you and going home with you. Michelle has nothing to worry about. Thalia has got nothing on the First Lady who refused to dance in the first place. Michelle is one tough cookie and Barack Obama is a charm. There relationship is very interesting and worthy of making headline daily if they keep this up.

HELIUM BALLOON BOY & FATHER HOAX EXPOSED

Media is to blame for glorifying outrageous stories forcing normal families to do whatever necessary to gain exposure for their talented children. Not only did this family’s hoax work and make national news, but the child admitted he lied for a show as in a reality tv show. Perhaps, the child was talking about another incident, but he clearly spilled the beans with a little questioning from the news reporter. The disloyal father immediately cast a bad light on his child as a boy with physical and behavorial issues. Nice try. As a former psychoanalyst, that parent was lying. America didn’t like that one bit and now investigators should press charges. There are some things you just don’t do and that’s get on national news with a fabricated story of a child floating in a balloon that traveled under the clouds and have folks worried.

Do you know how many impressionable youth will attempt to build a helium balloon and fly from their attics on the account of this badly interpreted story if a true-to-life BALLOON BOY. An indictment is necessary so children can see that when you lie in America you go to jail as an adult. This story is not funny. Tax payers money gets wasted following reported cases of missing youth and when the situation is real next time, no one will believe it.The truth will always set you free. What were these parents thinking? I know their reality tv show got rejected from prime tv networks, but why not host your own tv network online.

After all, this is how TMZ.com landed on air. You don’t mess with national news! These parents are in big trouble for lying!

The Biggest News of the Week: Judge Keith Bardwell Refuses to Marry any Interracial Couples

In New Orleans a Lousianian Judge flat out refused to marry an interracial couple who was expecting to pay $35 and get married. According to the Associated Press, he didn’t deny this couple an opportunity to get married, but mentioned he just wouldn’t do it. Was he within his rights and beliefs that interracial couples don’t last and interracial children suffer from these relationships?
After all, almost every interracial star has complained of the mental anguish, identity crisis or feelings of abandonment from one parent over another due to racial issues, so this judge may have a strong conviction that needs to be examined. Do judges have to be forced to marry anyone if they feel that an interracial couple is just getting married to have interracial babies?
This judge is being put under fire, but may have a case against the Supreme Court Justice which enables anyone within their unalienable rights to stand for their own convictions and not only question anything in the constitution, but get answers. If a study concludes interracial marriages do not last forever this judge is looking at a million dollar settlement.  The couple can go get married somewhere else, but the judge is being  brought attention and defamation he may be able to fight to the top and bank on it.  There is always a method of madness to these judges actions and I can see what is going to accrue well in advance.

Miracle Baby Falls Into the Tracks of an Oncoming Train and Lives!

by Heather “The Literary Heat” Covington

www.Disilgold.com
www.Literarydiva.com

A mother was talking to another woman at a train station  and suddenly the carriage rolled and fell over the edge of the platform just seconds before an oncoming train arrived. When she realized that her child’s  stroller was rolling off he platform that is when she rushed to try to catch the handles and even touched the front of the train at pull in speed or (20-15 mph) , but  the force of the wind  knocked her back instantly.  Not only did this save her life, but the deep trench which is about  a 1/2 foot deep along with the height of train car allotted enough room for the baby’s entire body to go unscathed.

If the baby had hit the third rail she would have been electrocuted by the current. A baby’s head is very heavy and it only takes half a child’s life to reach the size of a full adult head. The child’s head weight along with possible shock enabled the baby to move for a few minutes and give the paramedics a chance to dislodge child to safety, thus avoiding what could have been a travesty. The stroller also, ejected the baby which may or may not be a safety mechanism, but  failure of equipment. Had the equipment worked properly the baby may have still been lodged in the stroller.

Some heartless people are already buzzing that the woman planned the incident and faked trauma. I don’t think any mother regardless of her situation would be able to do anything so ruthless.  In my opinion, the mother did not seem to plan this fatal accident and although the other person she was speaking too looked very noncholant throughout the ordeal, she convulsed like a mother would do upon facing a tragic accident. Some people are sayign if she really cared she would have jumped in the tracks to save her baby and die if need be because thay is what a  loving mother would do, but a loving mother also, loves herself and this gesture is insane. Her head could have been impacted and God spared her life and her child.

Perhaps, if any charges are filled it will be a fine toward the mother for failing to hit the stopguards on the child’s carriage which should be applied whenever a carriage is stopped and as often as necessary to prevent freak accidents. The weight of the child’s carriage was light enough for the stroller to roll with natural force as would any weighted object on a slope. There is also, concern over the platform sloping downwards.  Had their been some kind of preventative design or grove or texture to to platform the stroller may not have rolled, but then there would be cases and complaints of people tripping and/or flooding of platforms which naturally spill off run off water from the streets above subways onto the platform.  The train certainly would not be able to stop so soon.

My question is how many more accidents do we have to envision before a lwa is passed for trains to stop way before they reach the platform and then slowly pull in. Why do trains have to pull in at lightning speed into stations? Didn’t New York have trolley cars are one point that  use to ring bells?  Anyway, glad to see the Miracle Baby is okay.

ASK HEATHER: Are Black Celebrity Men to Blame for the Breakdown of Relationships in America? Let’s talk!

diddy-6

It appears everytime you hear about black male celebrities they are having major female issues!

No one talks about what good they have done to support their industries as money makers, business men, trendsetters and entertainers, but as soon as tension hits the fan and there is a single altercation their entire life is summed up as that event like no one has had issues. I am for one, sick and tired of the male bashing, period. Just because I wrote a  male bashing book called, PerSOULnalities: Poems For Every Kind of Man, doesn’t mean I think like the way I write. I am embellishing the people’s voice which is dead wrong. Sometimes you have to show people how they are behaving for them to see just how ludacris it is to bash all black men on the account of some male celebrities and I am not talking about  Diddy and Chris Brown specifically. I just find this pic very interesting.

And of course, a book like Tekila Nika which exposes 5 pact of notorious male womanizers has nothing to do with Diddy or Chris Brown at all either. I am not trying to solicit Diddy, Chris Brown, Usher, Trey Songz and 2 others I won’tmention right now to play as the Tekila Men’s Pact in the movie version of the book.  It just so happens their recent incidents meet the description of 2 out the 5 guys in Tekila Nika: The Forbidden Bronx Video Diary Tales by Babe Charisse Worthington.

ASK HEATHER: Do successful people like Tyler, Cicely, Oprah and Suzanne Share the SUCCESS SMILE?

by Heather “The Literary HEAT” Covington

www.Disilgold.com 10901020heathercovington1014200870006pm

My new book, God’s 24 Hour Makeover: The Emergency Repair Contract to Complete Joy  mentions something I call “THE SUCCESS SMILE”. Many successful people own a particular smile that spells success. If you notice,  film maker, Tyler Perry,  actress Cicely Tyson, tv host Oprah winfrey, and producer Suzanne DePasse to name just one of  their titles have this confident smile that let’s you know exactly how they are thinking toward the person who took this picture. Tyler is saying, “You better not cut off my head in this pic because I am tall.” Cicely is saying, ” Take the pic with my eyes open, I look good. ” Oprah is saying, “Take me as I am because I am not going anywhere,” and Suzanne is saying,”Make my day, I’ll only produce another hit tv show if you bring me any negativity.”

In other words, these folks are all saying we  have worked for our success and aren’t too big to take a pic or talk to folks who are daring enough to approach us, but understand what it  took for all us to get here!”   So in conclusion, while the most successful people are approachable and share “THE SUCCESS SMILE,” don’t take it for granted.  They aren’t about to let anyone run over them today, tomorrow or ever.   Practice this smile if you are in the media business because there are a lot of vehicles ready to run you over. Give signals that you are not one to take for granted with your  “SUCCESS SMILE!” Like a picture tells a thousand words, your smile says it all.

INTERVIEW DISH: MICHAEL JAI WHITE STARS IN BLACK DYNAMITE

michael-jaie-white

Michael Jai White Interview with Kam Williams

A Syndicated Top Story of the Week on www.disilgold.com

Michael Jai White was born in Brooklyn, on November 10, 1967, but raised in Bridgeport, Connecticut where he attended Central High School. He started studying karate at the age of 8 and had already earned a black belt by the time he was 12. The beefy hunk continued to practice a variety of martial arts disciplines while in college, and also added acting to his repertoire.

Michael made his screen debut in 1989 in Toxic Avenger II, and followed that up with appearances in action flicks like Universal Soldier and Full Contact. His big break arrived when he landed the title role in Tyson, a made-for-TV bio-pic about boxing great Mike Tyson. He subsequently played Spawn in the screen adaptation based on the popular comic book series of the same name.

More recently, White received critical acclaim for his work in The Dark Knight and in Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married. Here, he talks about his two new releases, Black Dynamite, an homage to the Seventies’ Blaxploitation Era, and Blood & Bone, a revenge flick which went straight-to-DVD.

READ INTERVIEW NOW!

Kam Williams: Hi Michael. Thanks a lot for the time.

Michael Jai White: Hey, no problem.

KW: What inspired you to write and to star in Black Dynamite?

MJW: I came up with what I though was a funny idea for a movie. So, I wrote it, found the money to produce it, and it’s been a ball from start to finish.

KW: How would you categorize the movie as a spoof or as a drama?

Is President Barack Obama Gods Brother on Earth because He Just Won the Nobel Peace Prize?

Is Barack Obama Gods Brother?

On this 9th day of October the world received news that President Barack Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize, one the most presitgious awards worldwide next to the YOUnity Reviewers Guild of America Awards, and nevermind that I have chosen to sell erotica books  online to gain revenue and give back to the youth  I educate, rather than emphasize my award winning poetry. Sometimes even good souls have to do what it must take to succeed The Disilgold Way, but at least I don’t have to sell my house or my soul. President Barack Obama admitted from day one he was no angel, but committed to his philosophies. I also, admitted this in my book The Disilgold Way: Countdown 101 From Writer to Self-Publisher at the beginning of my journey.  Somehow, President Barack Obama found time to author several books while building his blueprint for the nation. I somehow found time to author a dozen books on the mainstream eventhough as my pseudonym names and build www.disilgold.com.

What is fascinating is that my debut urban novel predicted Barack Obama’s presidency, but never in a million years would I think I would live to see the day that this great soul and human being would become a Nobel Peace Prize Winner this soon. I knew one day, but it’s just one year later since he took office. And- never woud I have dreamed of gaining a NAACP IMAGE AWARD finalist honor among people like President Barack Obama and Tavis Smiley who are ordinary individuals as myself who don’t pretend to be great, but when they enter the room, this magic occurs and a person’s greatness is matched with one’s supporters.

This is how I felt on stage at the Harlem Book Fair years ago when the center aisles were not filled with vendors as today. Over 10,000 people nestled still and listened as I took to the stage with NOT CELEBRITIES, but authors of this era. It is amazing how one’s voice can be utilized to stir more greatness with YOUnity.  I wish I was as polished as President Barack Obama, but even through my flaws, great people see my great soul and I must say my soul sees a global leader who knows what he is talking about when it comes to healthcare and global peace. There is no peace if people are building nuclear warheads.

America now has to spend money to monitor its borders and not its inner cities.  Bush chose this route and violence, drugs and crime accrued beyond expectation birthing more gangs fighting for turf they don’t even own  then masters bidding on the strongest slave in New York’s Wall Street area. Now we’ve manifested self-inflicted slavery and while Barack a humble giant, his own people are too proud to give  Barack Obama the glory he deserves.  We haven’t become better souls internally so  now we want to destroy the king America put on a dais before given this genius a chance to fix our nation. One man can’t do it alone. It takes the same number of people who voted for Barack Obama and thought the realization of their dreams of a black man in office could not be a frution to support, and not that race matters, but young children need to see their image and diverse images.

I had  to salute  Sotoamayer on a syndicated Latino site and soon warfare rumors of Rosie Perez  and J. Lo battling to tell her story surfaced like an untold lie to dampen the greatness of this woman to her folk as well as diverse communities.Winning the Nobel Peace Prize is not a byline, it’s a headline and global. It sends a powerful message . If I could give 10 million away like the Nobel Peace Prize I would, but I rather give back to the youth. I already know what President Barack Obama is cooking for our youth. He’s not only going to disarm nuclear weapons with tough sanctions, but he’s going to enable youth with the same dreams he had as a youth with his quote from inception of his journey,  ”Don’t Follow your dreams, Chase them!” – Barack Obama has made history. This is as big an honor as it gets. Even the Pulitzers can’t top a Nobel Peace Prize.  Maybe the YOUnity Guild Awards. Let’s see if voters turn out for Barack Obama on www.HeatherCovington.net. Let the countdown begin.

This week, Regina Kimbell sued Chris Rock claiming he ripped off her documentary, “My Nappy Roots,” which rumors are speculating she  may have introduced to Chris Rock with a casual conversation when he was on the set of “Everybody Hates Chris.”

This news toppled media this week because everyone knows that this movie is such a diverse move we’re not used to seeing from Chris Rock, a political and satirical comedian who has been branching out in many new fields and unpredictable.  Some folks feel the move was way out  left field and questioning why would a comedian do a film about good hair, a female issue?

However, upon listening to  Chris Rock fill in for the Steve Harvey  Morning Show I did recall him mentioning that he was driving his daughter and her white friend somewhere  oneday and she couldn’t stop talking about how straight, long and pretty her girlfriend’s hair was. Chris mentioned this is how he conceived the idea.
He gives cameos to black starlets all throughout the movie. Yes, anyone might do a film on Good Hair, but Chris Rock had the clout to make the idea a fruition.  Well, anyway I am getting emails in my inbox that a judge  just cleared the restraining order for his movie release on Friday, October 9th which I will for surely check out and decide if it lifts from the concepts of ”My Nappy Roots.”

He may be in the clearing for now, but I am sure media will hear more  of this story.  We all know Chris Rock is popular, but plagairism of small fish  is not cool either which I hope this isn’t the case and I wish for folks to respect this  situation until it goes to trial and no matter how much we all love Chris. This is a female in the industry who had the  courage  to sue and risk being black balled and losing her case which seems to already be the case, but let’s just hear this out from both sides.  Do you rememember when a very popular author’s work  in the literary industry  was lifted by a major motion picture and honey went to bank proving her case beyond a reasonable doubt and settling for millions? This should give us all the quivers.

However, do know that ideas, nor concepts are copyrightable. If you have a book you must perform at least excerpts of it live somewhere, register your script  version and sign a confidentiality or disclosure statement with a person who will bear  claim to the  origin of the work from conception. The Poorman’s copyright does not hold in court and lawsuit claims have been limited from those maximum damages from happy-go-lucky law suits in the past. If you believe someone has lifted your idea from your site, you are in better luck if you have stats monitor. No one goes looking for matching IPO’s these days, but a lawyer can do the darn thing. Even if you remove items from your site nothing ever disappears off the net once you publish it just once. Any person can be found from anywhere. All computers come with serial numbers you must register for anti-viral software.

If folks can’t get their money from Madoff what makes  authors  think they can get it from a movie that hasn’t launched. Once legal and production fees are exhausted from revenue there is nothing left. Producers know how to set up limited liability companies within large fish companies so they are untouchable. In other words to sue anyone these days cost money and lots of it. Pro-bono lawyers work together with celebrity client lawyers so they can at least get a few g’s in expenses from the plantiff. Copyrighting your work is really so no one can sue you with similar work claiming you infringed on them.

As far as any conversation, who is to say Chris Rock wasn’t already working on the GOOD HAIR  idea. This is why press releases are very important. Even if folks copy ideas, the press release time stamps origin as well to a larger base and folks already know. We Hear Faizon Love is on the Wendy Williams Show this Thursday, but Check Out The Couples Retreat Interview Now

2586251heathercovington107200932316am1

Okay, found a million dollar pic of Faizon Love.

Looking for a decent pick of Faizon Love from his management. I hate when photographers use the wrong filter for people of color at red carpet events. They don’t know how to bring out the beauty in dark skin. I can’t even see Faizon’s eyes in a pic I found of him at several events. Getting a pic now.  Black skin doesn’t have to always look ruddy  and shiny in pics. Learn to use your camera’s media or get out of the business. This is why magazines are going out of business. It’s like a pic I found of Diddy at the Hip Hop Honors. Didn’t even want to post. The man is handsome, but this pic disguises all of his features that show the character in his face.  Maybe media should be  fined who take bad pics of African American people. Be right back.

“Commentary by Heather Covington. I don’t mind featuring the book reads of Disilgold SOUL interview guests, but if its anything too controversial or political that will attract spam to our sister blog here, we are striking it, FYI.  Other than that, Faison Love is a riot and heading straight to the bank.”

Langston Faizon Santisima was born in Santiago, Cuba on June 14, 1968, but was raised in Newark, NJ and San Diego, CA. Changing his name to Faizon Love, he started out in showbiz as a stand-up comedian at 15, before finding steady work as a colorful character actor both on TV and in film.

Among the many movies on his resume’ are Elf, Blue Crush, Friday, 3 Strikes, Money Talks, The Replacements, The Players Club, Idlewild. Torque, The Perfect Holiday and Who’s Your Caddy? On television, the burly teddy bear has appeared on such sitcoms as “That’s So Raven,” “The Wayans Bros,” and “The Parent ’Hood.” Here, Faizon talks about his new film, Couples Retreat, a battle-of-the-sexes ensemble comedy co-starring includes Vince Vaughn, Jason Bateman, Kali Hawk, Kristin Davis and Jon Favreau.

Kam Williams: Hey, Faizon.

Faizon Love: What’s up, man?

KW: First, let me tell you how much I’ve enjoyed your work. You seem to pop up doing a hilarious cameo in every other movie I see.

FL: [Laughs] That’s funny, because this is one of the last two movies I’m doing in order to focus on writing and directing. There’s an Eddie Murphy project I may do, but I’ve already directed my first piece. [Tao of the Golden Mask]

KW: Wow!

FL: Yeah. That’s where it’s at.

KW: So, what type of pictures do you want to direct?

FL: The first one is sort of an homage to Bruce Lee, but the good guys wear black. It’s a fun popcorn movie. And I’m going to make some more Seventies-style karate movies with budgets around $5 million. Hopefully, they’ll turn over a profit.

KW: Speaking of directing, Couples Retreat was made by a first-time director, Peter Billingsley. Was that risky?

FL: Not really. Peter’s a part of the family. He’s been around the business. He had Jon [Favreau] there, and Vinnie [Vaughn] was hands-on, too. And most good directors are good actors, and Peter’s been an actor for years.

KW: Yeah, as a child, he played Ralphie in A Christmas Story.

WORLDWIDE EXCLUSIVE: Gladys Knight- I Can Do Bad All By Myself Interview: Equal Time with the Empress of Soul + Bonus Commentary From Heather The Literary HEAT Covington

Gladys KnightCommentary From Heather The Literary HEAT Covington

First of all, Gladys is my sorority sister so the loyalty is there. I own copies of all of her original albums passed on to my mother to me and the covers are in tact, plus the Gladys Knight and The Pips Albums, so the lady is gold in my book. I paid tribute to this classic songstress of all time in a book called PERSOULNALITIES: POEMS FOR EVERY KIND OF WOMAN I wrote. Since I was little, I always admired Gladys Knight’s  naturally  long hair and wore my hair like hers when I got my hair did. My mother used the classic straightening comb to do my hair. (The hot comb was invented by Madam C. J. Walker for you history illiterates), SHAME ON YOU, kidding, and the 1st Billionaire hair care product inventor. Let me not go there. The process was painful.  Anyway,  sometimes you are at events and meet people associated or who know  singers. Everyone knows  Gladys was in a very public relationship with Motivational Speaker Les Brown whom I got a chance to have lunch along with a few other author proteges at the Circle of Sisters Expo with his daughter, Ona Brown, (GET YOUR TICKETS AT www.WBLS.com for only $10.00 before sold out…. was  a major sponsor one year and spearheaded  the literary pavilion)  to candidly get schooled on motivational speaking. Les Brown was always an inspiration to me as a child as well and to many of my fellow authors.  I didn’t go there and ask what happened, but all I can say was Les was very respectful when he spoke about his cancer scare. It made him depressed and impacted on the relationship.   He’s fine today. As a media journalist to get this kind of information is historical. All I know is that both Gladys and Les Brown are royalty in their domain. There will never be a Gladys Knight or Les Brown as well as a Michael Jackson and James Brown. I think it is wonderful for that baby producer Tyler Perry to give light to all of these fine actresses and actors  and renown folk, plus  pay hommage to classic beauties in music like Gladys Knight. I want to see a lifetime achievement award on all award shows soon. When I think of Gladys I think of Chaka Khan, Pattie LaBelle, Stevie Wonder and Aretha Franklin. If you haven’t heard of  Gladys Knght Music, you need to get a classic album in stores. I couldn’t be a music maven if I didn’t grow up hearing Gladys Knight . Her era of music was the greatest. I’m kind of giddy over this interview with Kam Williams. She listens to music the way I do, by soundtrack and the entire album. If I can’t listen to an entire album it simply isn’t any good. Her choice  of what she’s listening to now which will shock you and is mentioned in this interview is  a solid production and reflective of her  great taste in music.”

Gladys Knight

The “I Can Do Bad All by Myself” Interview with Kam Williams

The great ones endure, and Gladys Knight is a testament to that sage maxim. Over the last half-century, this seven-time Grammy-winner has enjoyed #1 hits in pop, R&B and Adult Contemporary, and has triumphed in film, on television and in concert.

Revered as The Empress of Soul, Gladys is currently basking in the glow of the critical acclaim for her latest album, “Before Me,” a tribute to great legends like Ella, Duke, Billie, Lena. She has also recently released a couple of collaborations with the 100-member Saints Unified Voices gospel choir, with whom she landed the “Best Gospel/Choir Album” Grammy.

Knight was awarded yet another Grammy for her duet with the late Ray Charles on his posthumous album “Genius Loves Company,” specifically for “Heaven Help Us All,” and her “At Last” solo album earned a Grammy for “Best Traditional R&B Vocal Album.” Furthermore, her recent four-year run at the Flamingo in Las Vegas was hailed “the number-one show on the Strip” by the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

The Georgia-born icon began performing Gospel music at the age of four and won the grand prize on television’s “Ted Mack’s Amateur Hour” just three years later. She met with phenomenal success throughout the 60s, 70s and 80s with “Gladys Knight & The Pips”, including several Grammys while registering numerous Top 10 hits, perhaps most memorably, “Midnight Train to Georgia. Over the course of her illustrious career, Gladys has recorded nearly 40 albums, earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and been inducted into the Rock ‘N’ Roll Hall of Fame.

Here, she talks about her life and about her co-starring role as Wanda in Tyler Perry’s new movie, “I Can Do Bad All by Myself.”

Kam Williams: Gladys, thanks so much for the time.

Gladys Knight: Not a problem, Kam.

KW: The first time I met you was on an airplane back in the Seventies.

GK: Oh really?

KW: Yes, and you were quite gracious in speaking to me briefly and signed an autograph. I appreciated your making that encounter a special moment I’d remember for the rest of my life. But I wonder what it is like on the other end, and whether always being approached by fans has been a burden for you.

GK: No, I’m just me. I never get any further past that than that. I’m a people lover. I love interacting with different people as I meet them, and I think people are one of God’s greatest creations, I really do. They’re interesting and intriguing.

KW: What interested you in doing “I Can Do Bad All by Myself” and working with Tyler?

GK: Mr. Perry? Mr. Perry called me up and said, “Gladys, I’m sending you a script. I have a part I need you to do.” [Laughs]

The “Fame” Interview with Kam Williams

“Naturi by Nature”

Fresh on the heels of her steamy screen debut earlier this year in Notorious as Lil’ Kim, Naturi Naughton is back with Fame, a remake of the 1980 Academy Award-winner for Best Score and Best Song. Now, the New Jersey native is enjoying a starring role showcasing an array of her considerable talents, including solo performances of a couple of hits from the original, the title track “Fame” as well as “Out Here on My Own.”

Fans of 3LW (ala 3 Little Women) will remember the curvaceous cutie as a founder of that popular singing sensation. Since then, Naturi has studied Political Science at Seton Hall University and has appeared as Little Inez in the Broadway production of Hairspray.

Here’s she reflects on being a member of the ensemble of Fame, a music-driven drama revolving around the aspirations of students at the New York Academy of Performing Arts.

Kam Williams: Hi, Naturi, thanks for another interview.

Naturi Naughton: Thank you.

KW: What interested you in doing Fame?

NN: You know what’s so great about Fame is that it’s one of those classic re-inventions, one of those movies everybody wants to see come to life because it’s about young people fighting and striving for their dreams. Plus, I’ve been there. I was a young person who had a dream and wanted to be successful, and that’s kinda what Fame is all about. So, I think I was just attracted to the struggle and the realness of the story.

KW: You play Denise, but I don’t remember there being a Denise in the original.

NN: She’s similar to Coco, but not really the same personality, because we revamped the characters and changed some of the main storyline. However, I do feel very honored that I get to sing some of the original songs first done by Irene Cara. It was really exciting to bring those classics back to life in a new way. Even though I’m not playing exactly the same character, I feel like I’ve had a chance to recreate Coco in a fresh way.    Continue reading

Celebrity Allstar Long Interview with LeBron James+ It is Official! Lebron James Listens to JayZs Blueprint

 LeBron James

The “More Than a Game” Long Interview

 with Kam Williams

LeBron Raymone James was born on December 30, 1984 in Akron, Ohio to Gloria James, a 16 year-old single-mom seduced and abandoned by Anthony McClleland, an ex-con with no interest in parenting. Gloria did the best she could to raise LeBron on her own but that still meant moving frequently, living in the projects, and even temporarily surrendering custody of her son until she could get her finances straightened out.

Fortunately, LeBron found a sanctuary on the basketball court, where he would not only maximize his potential but forge lasting friendships with four teammates he would play with from junior high through high school: Dru Joyce III, Romeo Travis, Willie McGee and Sian Cotton. He was also very close to their coach, Dru’s dad, who would serve a critical role in shaping his character during his formative years as a father figure.

Of course, everyone knows that LeBron blossomed into a basketball phenom who skipped college and went straight to the NBA where in 2009 he became the youngest player ever to be named league MVP at the age of 24. But few are aware of how loyal, humble and unselfish a man he is as well.

To understand why LeBron has remained so grounded despite being nicknamed King James and being surrounded by all the trappings of overnight success, check out More Than a Game, an uplifting documentary directed by Kristopher Belman. This moving bio-pic chronicles the seven-year sojourn of the Fab Five, recounting both their basketball exploits and the personal challenges each had to face while collectively pursuing theirs hoop dreams.

Here, LeBron talks about the film as he reflects on life and his professional career.

Kam Williams: Hi LeBron, thanks for the time. I’m honored to have this opportunity to speak with you.

LeBron James: Oh man, thanks for having me.

KW: I loved More Than a Game. Why did you decide to make this movie about you and your childhood teammates?

LJ: I thought it was time, and the footage that the director, Kris Belman, had shot was unbelievable. He followed us around our whole senior year for what was just supposed to be a ten-minute school project. But after he saw what he had captured on tape, he knew it had the potential to be way more than that. And then when he came to me with the first little trailer that he made, I was like, “Wow! I’m on board. Let’s make something big out of this.”

KW: Well the finished product is very moving. Obviously, I was already well aware of your achievements on the basketball court, but this really related your personal story in a very powerful way. Congratulations!

LJ: Thank you very much. I appreciate that. My life has never been a bed of roses. I think now a lot of people are going to understand where I come from and who I am today.

KW: Part of what is so impressive about you is your loyalty to your childhood friends and your continued connection to your roots, which is something you don’t find with a lot of other pro athletes.

LJ: Well, thank you. I’m very humbled by the things I’m able to do on and off the court. I’m grateful to be in this position, and being able to give back really means a lot to me.

KW: What would you say has kept you so grounded?

LJ: My mother, Gloria James, and my upbringing have kept me grounded. When you’re a kid growing up in a single-parent household, it sometimes forces you to mature a lot faster than you might want. In my case, I had to become the man of the house very early. My childhood was never great. We moved from place to place a lot. There were times when we had no definite place to stay. So, a basic level of security was not always there. Therefore, when you finally make it out, and you become who I am today, you’re humbled by the memories of those situations. You’re kept grounded by those reminders that you didn’t always have it all.

KW: What has been the biggest obstacle you have had to overcome?

LJ: My childhood… my childhood was my biggest obstacle.

KW: Reverend Florine Thomspon asks, do you see yourself as a mentor today?

LJ: Absolutely!

KW: Is there any question no one ever asks you, that you wish someone would?

LJ: Honestly, no. I’m very open about myself. And between the movie and my autobiography, I’m putting everything I’ve been through in these 25 years of my life out there.  So, there’s really nothing that hasn’t been said.

KW: The Tasha Smith question: Are you ever afraid?

LJ: Am I ever afraid? Of course. I think everyone experiences those moments.

KW: The Columbus Short question: Are you happy?

LJ: Definitely! I’m very happy.

KW: The Teri Emerson question: When was the last time you had a good laugh?

LJ: About two minutes before I started speaking with you. [Laughs]

KW: The bookworm Troy Johnson question: What was the last book you read?

LJ: Shooting Stars. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/159420232X?ie=UTF8&tag=thslfofire-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=159420232X

KW: The music maven Heather Covington question: What music are you listening to?

LJ: The Blueprint 3 by Jay-Z.

KW: The Laz Alonso question: How can your fans help you?

LJ: By just continuing to respect and to embrace the way I play the game of basketball. And I’m going to continue to respect them.

KW: When you look in the mirror, what do you see?

LJ: A great father, a great friend, a loyal person and someone who’s always trying to make a difference.

KW: What is your favorite dish to cook?

LJ: When I cook, my favorite thing to make is grilled cheese sandwiches. [Chuckles]

KW: The Flex Alexander question: How do you get through the tough times?

LJ: By remembering my upbringing. That was as tough as it could get for me. There’s nothing that could happen in my life right now that could be as hard.

KW: Reverend Thompson also asks, what is your greatest source of motivation?
LJ: My family. My two sons are my greatest inspiration.

KW: Some readers sent in basketball questions. Attorney Peter Brav asks how do you think it will be on the Cavaliers this season with your longtime center, Zydrunas Ilgauskus, having to share playing time with Shaq?

LJ: I think it’ll be great adding a future Hall of Famer in Shaquille O’Neal and having a couple of complimentary guys like that on the team

KW: Laz: Lyles wants to know if you would have liked to see Iverson come to Cleveland.

LJ: Allen Iverson is also a future Hall of Famer. Any Hall of Famer who wants to play alongside is always welcome.

KW: Peter, who I suspect is Jewish and 54 and plays basketball, also asks: Who is the best 54 year-old Jewish basketball player you know?

LJ: [LOL] I don’t know. I have a lot of Jewish friends, but I’ve never seen them on the basketball court.

KW: Yale Grad Tommy Russell has a question for you about politics. What do you think about the Obama administration’s acquiescence to the proposed missile defense system in Eastern Europe? How do you think that will affect our diplomatic relations with Russia?
LJ: Well, I think Obama’s doing what best for the country. He’s an unbelievable guy. Very intelligent, very calm and very humble. So, I ‘m very confident that he’s always going to do what’s best.

KW: Karla Thompson would like to know, whether you make time to reflect on all your achievements and to thank God for how far you’ve come?

LJ: I wouldn’t be anywhere without the Man above. I appreciate and try to take full advantage of my God-given talents. So, yes, absolutely!

KW: Karla also asks, are there any goals you have not yet achieved thus far?

LJ: Yes, winning the NBA Championship

KW: Mike Ehrenberg says he saw you play in Trenton during your senior year of high school. It was your first game back after you were reinstated following your suspension for accepting a couple of jerseys from a clothing store. What are you memories of that day?

LJ: I was very excited and very emotional, because I just couldn’t wait to get back on the basketball court.

KW: How do you want to be remembered?

LJ: As a very, very great basketball player, but more important than that, as just a great person who dedicated himself to kids and to giving back.

KW: In the movie, you describe your junior high and high school playing days this way: “It was basketball, but it was more like friendship than anything.” What did you mean by that?

LJ: It was wonderful to make lasting friendships with a great group of guys, and also to have a great coach who was willing to serve as a father figure. I wouldn’t change it for the world. I still have those guys around me to this day. In fact, I spoke to all four of them just this morning, as well as to my coach. I feel fortunate and blessed to still have that kind of access, because you don’t see that very often in life.

KW: You have such deep roots in Ohio. Will you really seriously consider playing anywhere else when your contract expires?

LJ: I love my hometown of Akron, and I love the fans of Cleveland. They’ve given me everything, so I’m just looking forward to this season which is going to be great.

KW: Well, thanks again LeBron, and best of luck this season.

LJ: Thank you.
