The heavily anticipated 52^nd Annual Grammys arrived with amazing success and quite possibly the best produced shows in its history.  A Best Dressed Survey  of Pre-Grammt arrivals was presented earlier and winners are now live on www.Disilgold.com.

 Some of the highlights included performances by Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Zach Brown band, Jamie Foxx, Elton John, Pynk, Taylor Swift,  usher, Smokey Robinson and more.

 One of my favorite performances was by the Zach Brown band that sang, America with blue-eyed soul before introducing Leon Russell that reminds me of a modern day Ray Charles, but from the Dixie era. This is the music folks love and listen to in their country cabin homes most kids don’t know about. Add a recession and this band is just killing airwaves with harmony.

Absolutely love this live band that plays violins, guitar, piano, drums and fiddle. Something like the Jonas Brothers, but more seasoned. Crazy  talent.

Headline: The Gospel According to King James   

                LeBron Raymone James was born on December 30, 1984 in Akron, Ohio to Gloria James, a 16 year-old single-mom seduced and abandoned by Anthony McClleland, an ex-con with no interest in parenting. Gloria did the best she could to raise LeBron on her own but that still meant moving frequently, living in the projects, and even temporarily surrendering custody of her son until she could get her finances straightened out.  

                Fortunately, LeBron found a sanctuary on the basketball court, where he would not only maximize his potential but forge lasting friendships with four teammates he would play with from junior high through high school: Dru Joyce III, Romeo Travis, Willie McGee and Sian Cotton. He was also very close to their coach, Dru’s dad, who would serve a critical role in shaping his character during his formative years as a father figure.

                Of course, everyone knows that LeBron blossomed into a basketball phenom who skipped college and went straight to the NBA where in 2009 he became the youngest player ever to be named league MVP at the age of 24. But few are aware of how loyal, humble and unselfish a man he is as well.

                To understand why LeBron has remained so grounded despite being nicknamed King James and being surrounded by all the trappings of overnight success, check out More Than a Game, an uplifting documentary directed by Kristopher Belman. This moving bio-pic chronicles the seven-year sojourn of the Fab Five, recounting both their basketball exploits and the personal challenges each had to face while collectively pursuing theirs hoop dreams.

A lot of women were talking about Greg Oden’s  nude pics leaked online and sent via viral mail to Greek sorority sisters. Folks opened the email and puked because 1. Greg Oden is not your average brother 2. That’s a NBA 1st draft pick who has not even played for a year  3. Folks say you can tell he was primping in the mirror admiring his package and 4.  he obviously trusted someone who sent the photos all over the net and didn’t even bother to black mail him and 5. Isn’t he a married man? Shame on you GREG!

             In the wake of the Haitian earthquake, CNN’s Soledad O’Brien rushed to the region to deliver the same sort of high-quality, eyewitness coverage that she has dependably broadcast in the past on location after location from such disasters area as the Indian Ocean Tsunami and Hurricane Katrina. Because of her seemingly effortless style and her People Magazine’s 50 Most Beautiful People List looks, what tends to get lost about this intrepid, Emmy-winning reporter is that she’s also a Harvard grad with a keen intellect, a razor sharp wit, a great sense of humor and an ever-inquiring mind. 

            I’ve interviewed a bunch of bright people in my day and, trust me, Soledad might very well be the brightest. You’ll instantly see what I mean, if you ever have the pleasure of engaging her in conversation one-on-one. Until then, I hope that this revealing tete-a-tete about the Haiti relief effort effectively conveys the essence of her brilliant mind and very likable spirit.

            Soledad is never one to shy away from a difficult or probing question, but is rather refreshingly frank and forthcoming in addressing in considerable depth whatever issue she’s asked to address. That’s the reason I sought her out in the first place to get the scoop on what’s really happening in Haiti. 

            Keep in mind that this interview was conducted soon after her return to the States, while she was cooking for and frequently distracted by a house full of rambunctious kids, and she even paused briefly from our conversation to pull one of her 5 year-old twin’s baby teeth, all without ever missing a beat.

Bo, Akon, Chris Tucker, Destin Tucker, Usher, Chris Brown, Polow Da Don, Tubby, Devyne Stephens and Young Jeezy attend the Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Atlanta Hawks game at Philips Arena on December 29, 2009 in Atlanta, Georgia. Surprisingly, Usher looks very calm after robbers broke into his car and stole 1 million in valuables on December 14th. According to TMZ, Usher may be worried about some unreleased tracks on his computer being leaked. The site only has a handful of African Americans on their blog roll, but are very much into Beyonce, Usher, Tyson, P. Diddy, Snoop Dogg, Barack Obam, Halle Berry, Oprah,  50 Cent and that’s about it.

Just today the Disilgold SOUL staff was reading commentary feedback from readers of a  blog quickly manipulating celebs into responses and sucking up because the comments allowed are so vicious and mean-spirited. In fact, any artist with backbone would become teary-eyed with some of the negativity posted, but it all makes one stronger and as I have said many of times, “You Know Your Are Awesome When Awesome Folks Want You to Stop!” 

This is more the reason to keep going and never stop your journey. Zoe Saldana naturally lends to the beauty of this futuristic photo shoot with striking features that compliment the vibe of the Complex shoot in a Brooklyn warehouse. More than likely she was freezing, but this is the sacrifice one makes for high tech results you will be impressed with in the December/ January issue of   Complex Magazine, a publication that is setting the standard for quality photoshoots that truly bring out the uniqueness of artists and so classy.  I won’t be surprised if  Mattel pays tribute to Zoe’s Domincan background with a  Zoe doll.  It’s about time. According to an article by AOL Small Business, Sean Diddy Combs may be suing his landlord to break out of his store lease. Folks are debating if Sean should sue his landlord during a recession or wait it out. His audience simply lost their credit card privileges. I hear guys saying they had as little as $2000 debt in credit card bills, paid their bill and their credit card company cut their cards. Others may have missed one payment and their minimum payments doubled. No credit, no shopping for many clothing consumers because if one has cash they’ll blow it like Drake, sings on his latest hit, Money to Blow. Of course, Sean John is going to lose revenue like any other clothing line, but it doesn’t change the quality of the line that I am sure will survive the storm because men like to look good for their ladies.

Personally, I think Sean Combs should take his loses and move his clothing line into a mall. Being super rich ain’t everything. A yacht for weekend family fun, adequate educations for his kids, security and a house away from the hustle is all these celebs need to get by, but when you make that much money before 40 in ones life time it becomes addictive. We forget he has a Ciroc beverage and cologne line… all smart investments.

2010 Golden Globes Recap

            Let’s face it, although the Hollywood Foreign Press Association hands out annual awards in a variety of television and film categories, most people really consider the Golden Globes a fashion show and an early indicator of Academy Award potential. Judging by this year’s results, Avatar, which won for Best Picture (Drama) and Best Director (James Cameron), emerged from the evening with the most Oscar buzz.

            In the acting categories, perennial-nominee (24) Meryl Streep took home her 7^th trophy for Julie & Julia, while Sandra Bullock won one for the first time in 4 tries for The Blind Side. Mo’Nique was a shoo-in for Precious in the supporting actress category, as was Christoph Waltz for Inglourious Basterds.

            Lead actor-honorees Jeff Bridges (Crazy Heart) and Robert Downey, Jr. (Sherlock Holmes) appear headed for a showdown at the Oscars, although common sense says George Clooney will remain in the mix. Still, Bridges enjoy the early edge given his body of work, his pedigree, and the fact that he’s been an Academy Awards also ran on several occasions.

            As for the evening gowns, most were understandably subdued, given the ongoing tragedy over in Haiti, with glaring exceptions Halle Berry and Mariah Carey turning heads in low-cut outfits ostensibly designed to draw a lot of attention to their golden globes. Rest assured, decadence and excess will be back in fashion on the red carpet by the time the Oscars roll around, so brace yourself for a perfunctory parade of gaudy baubles and gratuitous cleavage on March 7^th.
