Not a good look today as Jay Z  sponsored a give away of his Roca Wear fragrance  on BET 106@ Park, the most snowed in day of the year. I rarely watch the show, but caught this one today that had me in stitches when host Terrence asked  a guest from the audience how  Jay Z’s fragrance smelled on him. You won’t believe what the guest did.

 The guest turned up her nose as if to say the fragrance was not a good. Anyway, the embarrased Terrence yelled, “Sit yo’a@@ down” and even pushed the guest to the side.   The girl lost her balance. He then replaced the girl with a light skin sister with long hair as if she would not a be a hater and the audience jeered. She even said the fragrance was a’ight. How embarrassing was that?

 You would think that a show with mostly 16 year olds let in the studio with parental supervision or an adult of age would jump on the opportunity to be a spokesperson of a top fragrance line, but I have to give props for both girls honesty. Bianca from the Bronx had to giggle when asked how the fragrance smelled because most 16 year old girls are not into fragrances on men yet.  At that age I was beating up guys who made advances at me.

Some fragrances just don’t jive well on some men  due to over active ph levels which changes back into the urea they are made from, including skunk oil, poison ivy extracts and deadly poisonous oils that have activists banning perfume as a cause of  sickness, but I like Roca Wear X  fragrance. Again, when a host of a show  props a guest to answer any question about a fragrance, one should make sure they like it wholeheartedly. I will always remember how the girl on BET 106 & Park turned up her nose. The impression wasn’t good for Terrence or Jay Z’s fragrance. You only have one shot to represent a fragrance. I can’t say the whole sponsor thing gave me ammunition to buy Jay Z’s Roca Wear X fragrance. This segment was a MARKETING FAIL. Jay Z is lucky of his unit sales go up by a few hundred thousand this Valentine’s Day in stores.

A better approach to marketing the fragrance  would have been to connect it to the feature artist, Trey Songz who performed a medley of his songs on the show by having audience members guess trivia questions about Trey to win a box set of Roca Wear’s fragrance and maybe sinage along the gutter of the show’s set since this is where many shows are going in the almighty quest for sponsor dollars. Even a dual combination of limited autographed box sets with Trey Songz cd would have been more successful.
