Founding African American Literature Book Club

Carol Mackey, author of SisterGirl Devotionals, will sign her newly released book on June 5th at Barnes & Noble, Bay Plaza Shopping Center , 290 Baychester Avenue, the largest bookstore in New York.  I just ordered a copy as a gift for a friend and here and I am in tears because her biography features mention of my history book, Literary Divas. What a giving soul. Notice how we place links to Black Expressions of Disilgold SOUL Member’s books  just acquired  from Black Expressions Book Club. Carol is the lady who makes it happen.

Recently, I read a report that 7 out of 10 marriages or relationships in America will fail at some point and be challenged by various factors from financial stress, family matters and irreconcilable differences to changes in one’s personal preference of a mate, work situations, choice of careers, disputes over children, health issues and over all changes in a mates physical appearance. No longer do the words, ” ‘Till death do you apart” apply in most relationships. People are sustaining relationships that bring them happiness or ending relationships for aforementioned reasons above, but not so fast.

            Jill Scott was born on April 4, 1972 in The City of Brotherly Love where she was raised by her mother, Joyce, and her maternal grandmother. A naturally-gifted child, Jill was speaking at 8 months and learned to read by the age of 4. She credits her mother for broadening her horizons by taking her to see plays and to museums during her childhood.

            After graduating from the Philadelphia High School for Girls, Jill attended Temple University, working two jobs to put herself through college. She majored in English and planned to become a teacher, but dropped out of school after becoming disillusioned with the profession while spending time in the classroom as an assistant.

 Naisha Mendoza is a French-Canadian, new female R&B and Hip Hop Style artist, singer- songwriter and poet from Montreal Quebec was born to immigrant parents , a Hatian mother and Salvadorian father. Influenced by her mother, a model and dancer, Naisha  developed an interest for the modeling world and became a model in 1997 with the Girafe Agency.The turning point of her career began in Winnipeg, Manitoba where she was largely exposed to music and arts. Naisha got the chance to develop her artistic abilities through school choirs; orchestras and school plays.

Her aunt Spaicy, is one of the most important figures in her life as she followed her in all her tours and studio recording sessions. Her aunt’s passion for music and great dedication is what made Naisha even more confident that music was her destiny. She then developed her song writing skills when watching her aunt compose melodies at home.It’s only later on in her career that Naisha started to really develop strong skills in her writing style. In 2007 Naisha saw herself honored for her poetry and won the Best Poetry Achievement Award for her poem entitled A foolish Heart. She is now a distinguished member of the Society of Poets as of 2008 in United States and in London, UK Noble House.

Her dedication to music, her passion and her writing skills got quickly recognized by Mich2050’s members who, the same year, signed her first record deal ever.             Born in Gary, Indiana on May 16, 1966, Janet Damita Jo Jackson entered show business at the tender age of 7 when she appeared onstage with her already famous elder siblings at the MGM in Las Vegas. Common was born Lonnie Rashid Lynn, Jr. in Chicago on March 13, 1972 to Lonnie, Sr. a former pro basketball player, and Dr. Mahila Ann Hines, an educator. He started rapping while still in high school, forming a trio called C.D.R. which opened for acts like N.W.A. and Big Daddy Kane. He adopted the alias Common Sense by 1992 which is when he released his first CD, entitled “Can I Borrow a Dollar?” He shortened his name to just Common after a lawsuit by a band claiming to have the exclusive trademark for “Common Sense.”

I was privileged to do a 1 hour interview on the commute with Marc Medley of The Reading Circle on WP88.7Fm and over 9000 copies of  The Disilgold Way: Countdown 101 From Writer to Self-Publisher became the favorite of self-published authors.  The New Jersey commute is an untapped market of consumers who love talk radio in the morning as opposed to music while driving into the city to earn their bread and butter, and so upon finding out that Terry McMillan was scheduled for an interview I thought I would inform everyone a few months early to prepare for what will be a dynamic interview of a self-made literary star in publishing  who  took a chance self-publishing 2 books before landing a movie deal for her film adapatations of her books like Waiting to Exhale and How Stella Got Her Groove Back.

Prince in no way has an ego over people using his trademarked name to pay tribute in articles so it seems and may believe use of his name empowers and strengthens his relevance in the music industry as one of the greatest performers of all time, but his bread and butter is his video footage so he has gone after entities like YOUTUBE and he maybe  rather fussy about his  photo images being used by media for any representation without permissions at events protected under copyright law. That makes him untouchable by media standards and even if I wanted to release my zoom lens shots of him at a perfomance featuring the original TLC members, Lisa, Chilli and T-Boz along with Christina Aguillera and the Royal Badness himself  years ago  at Madison Square Garden I could not without receiving a cease and decist letter, perhaps.

The first 3 words that came to mind when I watched Justin Beiber’s guest appearance on Oprah along with millions of watchers were 1. Control 2. Charm and 3. Natural Talent. Okay I said, 4 words, but these aren’t 4 words to be taken lightly. Justin Beiber is an intelligent music star beyond his years who seems to know something that many musicians who began their careers at a young age know too well, and that is to give your audience what they want and more of it.
