Hard to believe Whitney Houston is gone, but we’ll always remember the voice that transcended a generation of music listeners as one of the greatest voices of all time. Her mother, Cissy Houston was a back up singer for Elvis Presley. Her cousin, Dionne Warwick catapulted music charts along with Nancy Wilson during her error and now the legacy of voices from the Houston Family dynasty is remembered with celebration of her life. LiteraryDish.com founder, Heather Haliah was there with her on the same stage at Radio City Music Hall witnessing her sing her all time greatest hit, “I will Always Love You,” thus redefining the definition of a singer destined for meteoric success. On this day singers like Alicia Keys, Dionne Warwick, R. Kelly and Stevie Wonder will celebrate her legacy.
Aretha Franklin will not be in attendance at the funeral due to falling ill right after an ABC News interview where she states when she found out that Cissy’s daughter had a voice, no one would have imagined this skinny little girl was destined to become one of the greatest singers. Album sales of all her albums have risen to an outstanding 500% and flying off shelves.
I personally, hold my memories of viewing Whitney Houston side by side Cissy Houston, Gloria Estafan and Bebe Winans at her Radio City Music Hall performance years ago. Whitney Houston walked past me after giving a side glimpse and very demure smirk not needing any approval. You could sense her inner strength, hurt and pain at the same time back then. She didn’t even look at her mother. With beads of sweat draping down her long, lean and slender but very fit frame dressed in a sequined body suit, Bobby Brown placed a robe on her that appeared to be draped and hooded just like the same cloak she wore for The Bodyguard movie and simply inscribed with the words, Whitney.
At that moment I felt her pain, struggles and entire life of troubles that had already begun. I feel like I wish I could have doen something then as budding media back then and realize the responsibility of media to intervene in the lives of celebrities we report on and no matter how much backlash, for Whitney Houston might be here today. She didn’t get to see the remake of her self-produced movie, “Sparkle,” one of my favorite movies of all time she co-produced. She leaves a daughter, Bobbi Kristini, behind and strikingly spitting image who holds the angelic burden of quite possibly continuing in the image of her mother whose class and self respect epitomized the strength of a black woman. RIP WHITNEY HOUSTON 1963- 2012.
Whitney Houston attended Kelly Price & Friends Unplugged: For The Love of R&B Grammy Party at True Hollywood attended by guests like Omarosa, Terrell Owens and Brian McKnight. No one wants to believe that Whitney Houston died from drugs, but it is highly likely that she did , but not from narcotic drugs, rather medical drugs related to her emphysema problem that reacted badly to her heavy drinking the night before. Alcohol may have played a role in destroying any remaining airsacs blocking her air way and suffocating the actress while sleeping. She was found dead in a Beverly Hills Hotel room. She cut herself while at the event as well and was declared inebriated and drunkard on the way out with blood stains down her legs.
Not everyone pledges for a sorority upon graduation, but one of the highlights of joining a sorority is binding with sisters just like you who become life long friends. Joining a sorority isn’t just about learning your routines for a step show. There is a lot of discipline that goes into working with others and accomplishing a task with success. Sorority girls are said to have the capabilities to not only multi-task, but accomplish feats never imagined in their domain. Whether a lawyer, doctor or media personality, you can count on one belonging to a sorority. Just imagine if all of the sorority women joined forces instead of sub-dividing themselves by what division they joined. There are still sorority girls who won’t associate with other girls from a different sorority and why power connections keep getting thrown under the bus….
Taraji P. Henson was honored at the Black Girls Rock event at Paradise Theater. The special airs Sunday at 8pm on BET TV. Everyone looked gorgeous and make you proud to be a black woman. Taraji’s skin tight faux snake skin dress shows why she’s the baddest Hollywood Diva in the game. Get ‘em Taraji. Other surprise guests included Taraji P. Henson,Egypt Sherrod, Necole , Angela Davis, Tichina , Lala Anthony + more. The show airs tonight. Be sure to tune in.
Drake performs onstage at the Songwriters Hall of Fame 42nd Annual Induction and Awards at The New York Marriott Marquis Hotel and also, takes home Hal Davis Starlight Award presented by Jimmy Jam, but can’t help notice his sadness for not winning a sleuth of other awards this past year. Drake was robbed.
Now every new rapper is channeling him and that has got to cut like a knife. Maybe that’s why his next album is called, Farewell. Poor thing. They treat Drake so bad. He’s Jewish and Black. He was born with Hip Hop soul. Racism still exists. People love his music, but the higher ups don’t want to give him his due, but they are stealing his sound all over the place. You can see the sadness in his face. He doesn’t smile much.
It is being reported that Jennifer Hudson never made it to her next performance at CBS The Early Show Series after performing on the Good Morning America Concert Series.
Apparently she felt abdominal pain and got sick to her stomach as well as Selena Gomez who was scheduled to appear. Did the Good Morning America Staff feed them some stale food? We all know CBS and ABC are just as much rivals as affiliates.
The whole food poisoning seems suspect to people. Luckily, Selena Gomez reported same signs of abdominal pain so people won’t begin to speculate that Jennifer Hudson was experiencing complications from her severe weight loss. Already we know people think she has been taking diet pills or got her stomach stapled, but this is erroneous information being that both Jennifer and Selena fell ill
. Other insiders are reporting that maybe Jennifer was paid to not perform for CBS. Who knows? Can a person just get sick and people not make up rumors? We wish Jen

Finally, a singer representing for natural hair sisters and features is about to blow up on the BIG SCREEN in an upcoming Tyler Perry Movie, but everyone is wondering if Teyanna Taylor is Kanye West’s new F. If so, this power couple could be on their way to joining Jay Z and Beyonce as the new IT power couple, but a relationship between the two have not been confirmed yet.

So ever since Jennifer Hudson loss over 80 pounds it seems like she has been hinting that her baby’s father cant get use to her new slim figure and al; the attention she has been getting lately. Just yesterday, David Otunga was all the talk as her handsome beau to be, but now that Jennifer is getting endorsement after endorsement industry insiders are noticing some envious looks coming from the good looking David.
We’re predicting David is competitive mode and about to show what he’s working with soon. You know how couples act in the beginning trimester of their lives. We think it’s an adorable challenge and who knows they may be walking down the aisle soon in the best shape of both of their lives with all of this estrogen and testosterone floating around between the two. Jennifer is showing she is going for ultra fitness and won’t stop until she is America’s new sex symbol. Don’t you love how we make these feuds up. Jennifer’s shoes are slamming!

What’s hot this week on the Disilgold.com Multi-Industry HEATLIST COUNTDOWN?
#25- Everyone is tuning in to RHOA -Real Housewives of Atlanta, one of the most controversial shows of 2010 and author Nene Leakes at the center of attention as she announces a bitter divorce about to go down, but has her husband outwitted her with public broadcast of over $300,000 he claims he owes her on an internet radio show?
Last time I learned Jim Jones was banned from performing at most places in New York, but strangely enough BET allowed the Dipset crew to perform at live tapings of BET pre-awards show and no drama went down.
Looks like Hip Hop is taking a turn for the better and especially if these icons want to make the news sometimes on the major media sites and not spend their whole life represented on urban Hip Hop blogs. Time to come out the box so I brought them out on the www.Literarydish.com for what was the performance of the night everyone was agrees.
I am even looking forward to bringing out some of the Hip Hop blog owners for their writing skills that I think are not getting props. The original diplomat members are and Juelz Santana, Cam’ron, Jim Jones and Freekey Zekey. Here’s the Dipset Anthem.

Ciara’s lace ostrich dress is a scene stealer at the VMA’s pre-arrivals. Lady Gaga gets ragged by host Chelsea Handler for her head frock later on and surprisingly, Snookie is a hit on the red carpet and instantly recognizable based on live streaming footage on www.vh1.com before the show, but here is what folks are saying about Usher and Justin Bieber.
The NAACP celebrated its 20th Theater Awards attended by celebrity fashion beauties, Toni Braxton, Regina King, Keri Hilson, Beyonce,Kimberly Elise, Dawn Lewis, Gabourey Sidibe, Judith Hill, Tonya Lee Williams,Rhyon Brown, Nick Micheaux,Zoanne Clack, Rolonda Watts, Kristina Debarge,Jill Scott, Hope Olaide Wilson,Shaun Robinson and many other stars, but here are pre-arrivals whom someone asked who dressed the best.
I think everyone looked extra bright, fresh-faced and stunning. The 20th NAACP Theater Awards clearly brought out the finest dressed guest list, but my pick for best dressed was actress Nia Long. This lady just has the look of a Hollywood starlet without having to pose, over do the makeup or expose too much skin. Her ultra- cool personality and simplicity resonates from her smile and great hair cut that’s been her trademark look since she arrived onto the Hollywood scene. I am sure everyone will agree that Nia Long’s outfit was on point for the NAACP Theater Awards and tops the Literary Dish this week for best red carpet arrivals.

Dana Dane, Slick Rick and Slick Rick's Wife attend Dana Dane's 25th Anniversary and Birthday Party at M1-5 Lounge on September 8, 2010 in New York City.
Dana Dane, Slick Rick and Slick Rick’s Wife attend Dana Dane’s 25th Anniversary and Birthday Party at M1-5 Lounge on September 8, 2010 in New York City. Everyone knows who Dana Dane is from old school to new school and since we are on a HIP HOP wave this week, thought I would flashback with his mega-hit that put him on the HIP HOP MAP. The dance moves are no crazier then the dance moves of today…and clothes.
You’ll see how funny we Hip Hop generation folks look today 10 years later and laugh, too. Dana Dane was hip and fly during his era and the time rappers actually found wives and got married. Today, Hip Hop men aren’t getting married, but sure are having a lot of babies at a record breaking number.
In addition, many who were in trouble with the law are now living happily ever after. Not too long ago America was trying to deport Slick Rick forever back to England. I have to admit Dana Dane and Slick Rick sound was something like universal. Good to see them doing well.
Daynaha Santos, Nella, Chris Taylor, Marco Volcy and Disilgold Soul Magazine cover artist, Naisha Mendoza to perform at Ginuwine’s Concert After Party on August 29th 1234 “23″ Club.
The Last Chance Concert sets off Ginuwine’s return to the music industry as the pioneering SOUL KING of RnB whose dance moves, sound, artistry, voice and over all style have impressed upon a generation of music listeners.
First of all, it is amazing that this blog went from 15,000,000 to 2 million in rankings and I rarely post, and eventhough I am aware of all happenings of every artist thanks to my insiders always sending me news like I am still the Queen of Online Media. Guess folks want to heqr my opinion on issues and it only takes me a minute to post. No sweat.
The Tony Awards aired tonight on tv from taping at Radio City Music Hall. Best revival of a play went to Fences featuring Denzel Washington and Viola Davis. All I can say is I am so proud of Denzel who has mentioned that longevity coms from studying your craft.
Fela! also, took home Best Musical award and would you believe it is produced by Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter and Will & Jada Pinkett Smith. How did these folks team up. Wasn’t Will Smith a big rival of Jay Z at one time stringing out Miami style Hip Hop that gave all of the guys in the hood a run fo their money. That’s a great team up and the result, A TONY AWARD!
Mo’Nique The “Spread the Love Tour” Interview with Kam Williams
Academy Award-Winner in the House!
Mo’Nique collected a basketful of Supporting Actress accolades over the course of the awards season for her gripping portrayal of Mary Jones, the relentlessly-monstrous mother in Precious. The versatile comedienne/actress/talk show host’s powerful performance not only earned her a Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild, NAACP Image, Sundance Film Festival, BAFTA and Independent Spirit Award, but was recognized as the best of 2010 by most critics’ guilds as well. Still, the icing on the cake arrived no March 7th when the talented sister won a well-deserved Academy Award.
Here, in the first interview I’ve ever conducted which actually brought me to tears, Mo’Nique reflects upon a variety of subjects, ranging from family to spirituality to surviving incest to what winning the Oscar means to her. And she also talks about “Spread the Love,” the standup comedy victory tour during which she’ll be making stops in 20 cities around the country between now and the end of May.

Indie Arie over accentuates the eyes drawing attention away from an unflattering ruffle collared dress that does nothing to bring out this natural beauty. She really should have rocked a neutral gold toned form fitted dress with emphasis on a little exposure of the back achieved with a plunging cowel-like backline. Her hair is in phenomenal well maincured twists that could have been styled with some beads and even a faux pau flower for some added flair. She has the best features and simply missed her opportunity here to represent her style we all know is not evident at the BET honors.
Gabrielle Union is the epitomy of effortless style. She simply radiates in any hairstyle she wears. I simply love this Victorian updo and French braid look. Expect for Gabrielle to set of a new hairstyle trend all her own. It took her a while to find her own style.
Mya looks dazzling in red and knows how to compliment her radient style on the red carpet with charming accessories to match. She pulled all of that beautiful hair off her face for this outfit which is right on point and accentuates a bright smile. Mya’s look works here ans she knows it. Check out her mix cd out right now! It’s hot.
Ryan Leslie is a simple well maincured man who knows how to simplify his look with an expensive jacket and fresh out of the shower look. I bet he was wearing Armani cologne here. Style just imanates from this baby-faced music crooner steadily working his way to being an international pop star. Don’t say LiteraryDish.com didn’t tell you. His album is in stores right now. Get one before its gone. You know what happens when I mention a hot album here. People start buying 2 and 4 and there’s no more.

Remember Hootie and the Blow Fish a pop grew who rose in popularity with their hit “Only Want to Be With You?” I had a crush on the lead singer. Think I was 10 years old. The lead singer’s voice is so on, but then I found out how he dressed and the boy grunged me out. The million dollar voice just didn’t match the look I was expecting. Sorry.
“Spike Lee, Armond White, Jody Rosen, Margo Jefferson, Toure and Alan Light and Daphnie Brooks attend a panel discussion on “Remembering Michael Jackson” at the Cantor Film Center on September 17, 2009 in New York City.” I am hoping that these events and venues dedicated to Michael Jackson all around the nation are as sincere as this event. Some folks are just having Michael Jackson events to glorify themselves and make money in the name of the decease.

#20- Janet Jackson was the most anticipated guest of the night. After a Michael Jackson song and dance medley including hits like Beat It and Smooth Operator, 2 classics that set the foundation for Michael Jackson’s signature dance moves along with Billie Jean, Janet came out on time and in line to replicate the same moves of her big brother in perfect sync against the back screen. She didn’t miss a move., has dropped at least 10 pounds since her appearance during her late brother’s funeral and looked just as did when she started her Control Tour. It is clear that Janet is prepared to live on her brother’s legacy and take off on her own comeback as expected by her millions of fans and new fans who had never seen a female artist command the stage like Janet. Many of the stars screamed just as loud as her fans without shame. Baby Janet did her thing, and remarkably does not do the same moves as Michael at all. She has her own signature dance moves. Janet could take over if she wanted to.
#19- Madonna- A music icon in her own right who exceeded expectations as America’s Materialistic girl by default, Madonna appeared with a defiant 50 year old youthful and regal appearance. She shared many commonalities between herself and Michael such as having 8 brothers and sisters, but one thing she said was different was that she had a childhood. Michael shared he did not on a date with Madonna that resulted in MJ throwing his shades out a window to reveal his eyes at Madonna’s request. She apologized on behalf of many who failed to reach out when Michael gave signs he was in trouble, but I don’t think Madonna should have blamed all on herself or the fans or the world. Every celebrity is responsible for one’s own decisions in life and that is the hand of fate you are dealt upon making those decisions. The world owes you nothing when you mess it up so one needs to take control of their own lives. However, it was very gracious for Madonna to place the blame on herself.
#18- Lady Gaga’s dress attire and antics on stage overwhelmed her talent as a musician and instrumentalist. Coming out on the stage in underwear and pulling one’s own plug to become a bloody mess was too graphic for kids watching the VMA’s for the first time . Killing oneself to get the paps to like you won’t help and wearing barely nothing to prove you are a woman is like falling into the hands of media who won’t quit until you are dead. Okay, I get it, that was the point of the performance. My bad.
DELETED BY REQUEST FROM COMMUNITY.
#17- Solange Knowles- She recently cut off her natural hair and who knew Solange was so pretty under all of that overpowering hair. She certainly has her own look now and eventhough the singer, actress and entrepreneur with her own ABC JAMZ patented learning game could wear long or short hair if she chooses to. Solange is showing you can be feminine and stylish with or without hair and beauty is all in how you feel inside. I believe that was her voice singing along with Wale for the show transitions and I am sure there is more to come from this artist who I think didn’t get her fair share for a very decent album, but maybe two songs that should have been saved for a different album in my opinion.
#16- Kanye West and Amber Rose- Kanye West looked ultra cool and maybe that’s why he stayed on stage just a little bit longer. Notice how he showed his flashy hair cut from both angles while stealing the spotlight from Taylor. I knwo puppy love when I see it. I think Kanye would drop Amber in a minute for Taylor. I won’t be surprised if everyone gets his swirled out look. As far as Amber Rose, her figure is a lot like mine so if you got it flaunt it.
She gets props for starting a short hair revolution. All of these female celebs are shaving off their heads and doing all they can to get Kanye’s attention and still asking what does Amber have that they don’t have. One thing Kanye does have is a bottle of alcohol in his hand and let’s just see who comes out and provides intervention. Kanye is going to find out who his real friends are. Thus far, I have only seen Russell Simmons say something nice on Twitter. A very humble giant who can forgive teaches tolerance when these artists just lose it at times. Could be sleep deprivation or anxiety. If this isn’t an absolute crying out for help than I don’t know what is. This kid is way too talented for shock therapy as Obama voluntered to call him a jackass liek any father figure would to brush off the severity of the situation with humor. Barack may have saved Kanye by displacing the most verbal whipping on him for all media . I mean that just took the cake. And as disrespectful as Kanye can be he would never disrespect President Barack Obama. If he goes there his career is over. He’s not too grown for a father figure.
#15- Jay Z, Alicia Keys and Lil Mama too!
Oh no Lil Mama didn’t crash the VMA’s and come up on stage at the end of Jay Z’s performance with Alicia Keys because she felt an odl school connection as a New Yorker. That’s the conversation people are pumping in media like they need gas for a moped. Our resources claim that Lil Mama was told to go on stage at the end and that Jay Z wouldn’t mind. Notice how the pose was so on time like she knew what was up, but for some reason she got shunned by the incident and decided to apologize for the backlash. Folks don’t want tobelieve that Alicia Keys and Jay Z were mad at the long time fan. After all, on twitter the celebs are fans of each other and find comfort talking to each other, but I guess if you aren’t living in Beverly Hills you aren’t worthy of their conversation. So for all of the folks who love Lil Mama as a dies hard New Yorker, they may find confort in holding back buying an album that should have sold 1 million copies 1st day, but only sold 495,000 which is commendable, but low for someone like Jay Z. You mean to tell me with over 20 million viewers of shows like the VMA’s jay only got half a mil in sales and u know most were in New York. Jay may want to embrace Lil mama and get her other 500,000 plus fans sales. She’s a girl and young. She’s not a criminal or thug. You heard her. She’s the voice of the young nation. Just messing with folks because the pic of all three of them is cute. Lil Mama needs to take this kind of humility artists experience on the way to the top, get stronger and just take over. I have never purchased a Rihanna album although some of her fashions are the biz, but I have downloaded an ITUNE of Lil mama’s. That’s saying a whole lot. Her songs may be silly to serious, but I’m a New Yorker so I am going to relate to ther music no matter what just like the kids! It will be funny as hell if she heads up the VMA’s one year as a host. Never say never.
#14- Nelly Furtado is supposed to rejoining Timberlake. For a moment I thought she had left the scene, but it is clear that Nelly is not only back, but creating trends in fashion to watch. The hair do returns glamour to the game and very Hepburnish. Who knows the Nelly look may take off.
#13- Jimmy Falon is kind of funny and did his thing, but when he hosted the Emmys this evening he really was funny as hell on that vocoder; and proving anyone can sing with this machine which beats lip synching.
#12- Alicia Keys continues to have longevity in the game as well as surprise folks with her sense of style which gets better and better each time she appears at a red carpet event. I don’t doubt that Alicia Keys will launch her own clothing line. I predict it will be called A. Keys. Someone asked me what is my favorite Alicia Keys song and that’s a tough one, but I would have to say Superwoman.
#11- Cassie has been making headlines for everything lately from someone hacking into her personal computer and releasing nude pics to all major media to shaving off the side of her head and setting off a new trend. Now a new track is spinning on the radio with a long intro by Diddy that I won’t lie, I turn the song down until Cassie’s part arrives. It looks like she has a hit that is sufficient enough for her to lay off any more publicity stunts and it’s not that I don’t want to hear Diddy, but like he’s on all of his artist’s best tracks. What’s up with that. “It Must Be Love!” That is the name of the track. In all seriousness, Diddy needs to make his own album.
#10- Shakira may look like the girl next door, but right now there isn’t a single artist who can out dance her. Like a gymnast in her racy videos, we already know that this Latin artist is going to be around for a lifetime. She stole the red carpet with simplicity and effortless style.
#9 Keri Hilson- Keri wasn’t a presenter or honoree for the night which is pretty strange, but she still won points for the best styled diva on the red carpet of the night with this simple jumpsuit and classic zip down barely exposing any skin at all and just as sexy as all the other revealing outfits won by presenters. It’s official, covering up is the new sexy. We aew going to end this countdown with Keri on the Top Pages of Disilgold.com for the next few days because we are routing for Keri to win a few VMA’s next year!
#8 Beyonce- Exposing all because when you’re hot you’re hot, Beyonce never disappoints with consistent flair for do or die showmanship and why she’s the 80 million dollar lady approaching 1 billion very soon. Jay Z better watch out.
Help us countdown. Send your favorite VMA moments and arrivals to Disilgold@aol.com.

JayZ gave a sold out performance last night at Madison Square Garden in tribute to September 11th victims, a great contribution to mankind. Everyone was excited and pumped to “Answer the Call,” and eventhough the weather was rainy in the Big Apple. JayZ commanded the crowd with special guests like Kanye West who folks are saying is the “Black Elvis” of this era. Rihanna had her diehard fans screaming when she came out and who looked like she had enough with the pop shots from media lately.
Don’t worry Rihanna, authorities will easily find who leaked that picture and the computer it derived from as well any minute by now. Live on sis.
Mary J. Blige is still rocking her urban look and why folks will always love MJB. People in the crowd said the event was intense and mind blowing. JayZ rocked New York like a ROCKSTAR and no one got hurt or started any fights. The Hip Hop world gets points for bringing Hip Hop to the top New York Style on a whole another level. In fact, one of his hottest cuts on his album is Empire State of Mind.
