Iman sports a classic side swept bang bob which stops at the neckline. As a result, Iman’s eyes and beautiful cheekbone structure are enhanced and earrings stand out. The only problem with this style is that the style looks too safe and constricting. Iman can play up some tendrils and just a little more length. Being over 50 does not mean one has to look like the President’s wife and no offense to Michelle Obama, but Iman was an international Supermodel and I don’t care for this look on her. Get sassy and rock it out Iman.
Solange rocks a classic wig fro with built in texture, height and volume. Her own hair is a little bit thicker as we have seen before in pics. Solange isn’t fooling anyone here. This style works for the doe eyed beauty, but a little outdated. Solange gets props for individuality and claims she is not her hair, but then why does she change her hair so much? Add a great smile which Solange owns and the style works for now, but it will certainly grow out more and then what? She’ll probably go back to a straight and relaxed style. his is Solange’s umpteenth style change. Even Beyonce’ does not change her hair that much.
Keri Hilson is back with a different style and counting. This one is reminiscent of TLC and Mary J Blige’s old look so while it frames her face nicely it doesn’t come off as a signature look that Keri will lock in for the long run. If so, a different color might fair better. Keri can virtually wear any look, but the Marilyn blonde ambition look may be a little too powering . She may want to mix it with some brown highlights to soften the look.
Rihanna takes her classic red hair and creates an up do that is classic and not only looks elegant, but evolves with the singer’s success. While great for an evening among stars, this look won’t work well as a performer at all and normalizes Rihanna. Dom’t be so quick to look politically correct. Now Rihanna looks like everyone else. She use to have a bad girl image and you can tell she’s fighting it everyday. Not sure if Rihanna should do that right now.
Last but not least, Nicki Minaj rocks her own hair and cleverly gels down the front and then scrunches the top to show off her natural texture. Now this is an original hairstyle. She just blows Iman, Solange, Keri and Rihanna away. She definitely did it on them as the kids are singing her song all over the country.
I’m sure Iman, Solange, Keri and Rihanna are breathing fire right now after losing the Battle of the Hair Divas right here on the Literary Dish, but knowing these ladies they’ll all be back to make us fall in love with their hairstyles. Consider this round one and just a dose of humor.
